Our vacation cabin is secluded, yet not far from the small town of Kirkjubæjarklaustur. A small and cozy cabin, with one bedroom with a double bed and a sleeping loft with four mattresses. The cabin is small and the sleeping loft is not with a full height so adults might find it cramped. This is the perfect base for visiting the South Coast of Iceland, with short driving distance to f.ex Fjarðárgljúfur, Skaftafell National Park and the Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon. Small and cozy cabin. Beautiful view. Living room, WC, shower, one bedroom with a double bed and a sleeping loft for two (mattresses on the floor). Everything you need is in the cabin kitchenware, BBQ grill, sleeping blankets and pillows. In our small kitchen is a oven with 4-stove tops and a small fridge. You should be able to cook all your meals there. Around the dining table are 6 chairs and there is also a table outside so if the weather is nice you can eat your meals there. There is no TV in the cabin, but it isn't really needed as there is good 4G phone signal at the cabin, and it is also good to just relax and read a good book. There is one bedroom with a double bed (140*200cm) and in the sleeping loft are 4 mattresses. The beds are made-up with clean linen for our guests. The cabin is small and the sleeping loft is not with a full height so adults might find it cramped. The shower is in a separate room from the toilet and sink. There are bathroom towels and shower towels. The cabin is small and cozy, only (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) ) and is close to the lake Hæðargarðsvatn (only 50 m). In the lake we have brown trout up to 5 pounds and arctic char up to 6 pounds and we have a few different species of ducks on the lake as well. The cabin is our family vacation cabin, summer and winter. We are a family of four and try to go there as often as we can, all the year round. We live in Hveragerði and our cabin is 260 km from Reykjavik, next to the village of Kirkjubæjarklaustur (short and easy name!). The cabin is just a few hundred meters from the main road, easily accessible all year. From the cabin there are another 69 km to Skaftafell National Park and from Skaftafell another 57 to the magical Jokulsarlon (the glacial lagoon). On the way from Reykjavik there are numerous sightseeing stops including beautiful waterfalls and Dyrholaey. So, allow for 4-5 hours for the drive from Reykjavik to the cabin. The road from Reykjavik to our cabin, and all the way to Skaftafell is a very easy drive, a bit narrow but with asphalt and a 90 km pr hour maximum speed limit. During winter we recommend using 4x4 cars as you never know when it comes to the Icelandic weather. It is better to be safe than sorry! In the extremely small village of Kirkjubæjarklaustur you will find (1) a gas-station with a small convenience store and a diner-like restaurant, (2) a small supermarket, (3) a couple of nice restaurants, (4) some handicraft for sale (5) a swimming pool with a small gym and a (6) a liquor store. Basically everything you need:) Skaftárhreppur spans a great variety of landscape and vegetation, with a natural environment of striking contrasts. Landscapes and vegetation in the district are quite varied, and the natural contrasts astounding. Skaftárhreppur enjoys a pleasant climate, with mild winters and warm, sunny summers Natural disasters such as volcanic eruptions and sudden floods from beneath the glacier have through the centuries shaped the nature and society of this region. Within Skaftafell, some of Iceland's greatest natural treasures are to be found. The Skaftafell National Park was officially established Septemb (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) and at that time it covered approximately 500 km2. Skaftafell National Park then became a part of Europe's largest national park, Vatnajökull National Park, which was established June 7, (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) and covers over (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) km². That accounts for 12% of Iceland's surface, and makes it the biggest national park in Europe. Vatnajökull is Europe's biggest glacier and the 3rd biggest in the world. To begin with, the national park will cover the whole of Skaftafell National Park and the Jökulsárgljúfur National Park, in addition to almost whole of Vatnajökull and the surrounding area. From the cabin is a wonderful view of the Vatnajokull glacier. This is our summerhouse and therefore we will not be on location. We can however be reached by phone and email and we also have many contacts in the town of Kirkjubæjarklaustur that can assist if anything comes up. The cabin is located just by the lake. The lake is called Hæðagarðsvatn. It is about 5-min away from the small town of Kirkjubæjarklaustur where you will find a grocery store, restaurants, liquor store, swimming pool and more. As the cabin is just off the main road it is best to travel by car to the cabin.
