A delightful holiday home, cosy and well-equipped, situated 100m from the heart of the attractive village of Middleham which is renowned for it's castle and riding stables. The racehorses from the internationally renowned trainers Mark Johnston and Micky Hammond are ridden daily through the village to the gallops outside the town. The cottage is set out as follows Front door into Lounge - woodburner; 2-3 seater sofas - one opens out into a sofa bed. Free view tv; DVD player; selections of DVD's and books and local information guides. Door into kitchen - with table and chairs for up to 6 people. Kitchen is fully equipped including dishwasher, washing machine and large fridge freezer. Back door into walled courtyard garden with table and chairs and bbq. Stairs from kitchen to Bedroom 1 - double room with double bed. Sink unit. Drawers. Bedroom 2 - Double/twin room - the room can be made up as a double or a twin. The room has built in cupboards and great views over the country side. Bathroom - bath and shower. Parking is to the front of the house - space for one vehicle. The house has a combi-boiler for hot water. Heating is by way of electric radiators in each room and also wood burner in the lounge. There are electric blankets on all beds for extra comfort. There is wood left for the fire. Pets are welcome, although we do ask that they stay downstairs in the cottage. Middleham's historic cobbled square is home to at least 4 pubs, restaurants and tea rooms. The castle is a short walk away and a must visit for families is the forbidden corner, a maze of tunnels, chambers and surprises created in a 4 acre garden. The cottage is built of stone and consists of lounge, kitchen/diner, 2 bedrooms, bathroom and south facing court yard. There is also parking for one vehicle to the front of the house. The cottage is well equipped throughout and the kitchen includes a dishwasher and washing machine. It is heated by electric radiators and each bed has electric blankets for extra comfort. The lounge has a lovely log burner for those cosy evenings. There is wifi, freeview tv and a large collection of books and dvd's to relax and enjoy. The bedrooms are spacious with plenty of cupboard space. Linen and towels are included in your stay. One bedroom has a double bed, the other is a 'hotel' bed and can be a double or split into twins (please let us know). Middleham is a historic market town in the heart of Wensleydale. It nests between two rivers, the River Ure and River Cover in the rugged Richmondshire district of North Yorkshire and provides the perfect base from which to explore the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The surrounding countryside is wonderfully unspoiled with heather moors, ancient woods and windswept hills crisscrossed by idyllic footpaths.The area is perfect for those who love being outdoors with an abundance of walks and hikes waiting to be enjoyed, along with horse riding, fishing and mountain biking. Leyburn is a charming market town with lots of shops, cafes and restaurants.’s delicatessen. Market day is Friday. There is an excellent selection of fine food and wines available at Campbell’s delicatessen. Richmond is just over 20 minutes away and North Allerton with the famous ‘Betty’s’ restaurant is also a 20 minute drive. Grassington, Hardraw, Hawes and Kettlewell are all a short drive away, there are plenty of options for day trips. Leeds is less than an hour away and York is a magnificent city with some of country’s most beautiful historic architecture to explore. Other places to visit are Hawes with it’s Wensleydale creamery, Richmond with its castle and Masham with its brewery centres and icecream farm. Harrogate great shopping, Turkish bathes and RHS Harlow carr,. Tour the natural beauty of Hardaw Force, Aysgarth Falls, Thorpe Perrow Arboretum and the stunning Northern Yorkshire Dales of Wensleydale, Swaledale, Arkengarthdale and Coverdale. Bolton Castle, home to Mary Queen of Scots during her imprisonment is a walk or short drive away. The quiet roads in the Yorkshire Dales are ideal for cycling – after all Yorkshire has hosted the Tour de France which passed through Middleham in 2014 and you’ll find bike hire nearby in Leyburn or Aysgarth. Middleham castle was founded as a simple moat-and-bailey structure in the 12th Century, the building was later enhanced and became home to King Richard III, who administered the region from ‘Windsor of the North’ until his death at the Battle of Bosworth. You can explore the remains of the castle and from and learn more about Richard 3 and the Earl of Warwick and the various War of the Roses battles during the visit. From the viewing platform you can see the fantastic views over the Dales. Just outside Middleham is the Forbidden Corner which is a magical mystery for kids and adults of all ages. This is a unique four-acre garden with an enchanting maze of follies and tunnels, and a massive pyramid made of translucent glass. A great day out for all the family.
