Region: The ultimate in “year-round” appeal, the Peak District offers countryside, picturesque villages and magnificent scenery. It touches upon six counties and encloses 555 square miles of open moorland, flowing rivers, and wooded dales. Town: Set within the Peak District National Park is the conservation village of Winster. With a charming 17th Century market house at its centre and other imposing 18th Century buildings - nearly all of which have three storeys, the Main Street, East Bank and West Bank make a wonderful backdrop to any holiday pictures. Less grand but no less endearing are the little alleyways or 'ginnels' which lead off Main Street. The village itself is best known for its Morris dancers, Wakes festivities every June and its annual Shrove Tuesday pancake race. Within the little town there is a well stocked grocer's shop, a post office and gift shop as well as two pubs both serving food and local traditional beers.
