We now have a small quad fleet running so we can show you the beauty of these mountains surrounding us. Our “First –Time-Guests” mostly stay with us, because we are perfectly situated between the Kruger National Park and Johannesburg. Our guests don’t want to drive 6 hours, especially after a long over night flight, getting through customs, getting a rent-a-car, then getting lost in JHB and driving on the wrong side of the road. But they also don’t want to lose too much time the next day, and anyway Johannesburg isn’t the most interesting town to explore. --- Our returning guests however, mostly stay then for 2 or 3 days --- --We strongly recommend a rental car, as public transportation is not really available. --We do however offer a tour in an open SUV around Waterval Boven. Visiting the beautiful Waterval, the fascinating Stone Circles and historical sites. A picnic break can also be prepared. -- We also offer guided Quad Bike Tours. -- Free Parking on the secured property. Caravans and RV’s are no problem. --No problem getting to our establishment, nearly all roads leading to us are proper tar roads. (The JHB based Maserati Club has no problems getting here) Here are the directions to and GPS coordinates of Acra-Retreat. --We advise to use our directions in town, as some route-planners (Garmin, TomTom …) send you to a wrong address.-- From Johannesburg: Take the N12 East direction Witbank (eMalahleni) . At eMalahleni (Witbank) the N12 mergers with the N4 from Pretoria direction Nelspruit / Belfast. Pass Witbank, Middelburg, Belfast and Machadodorp. After The Machado Plaza Toll Gate keep on the right lane, which is the N4 to Nelspruit via Waterval Boven. The exit to Waterval Boven is about 5 Km from the Machadodorp toll gate. (If you are at the tunnel, you went too far!) From OR Tambo International Airport : Keep to the lane direction Boksburg. Take the second turnoff onto the N12 East direction Witbank (eMalahleni). Follow the instructions from Johannesburg (above). From Pretoria : Take the N4 direction Nelspruit. From Nelspruit : Take the N4 direction Machadodorp. After going through the tunnel turn left at the Waterval Boven exit (approx. 3 km). From Panorama Route: Under all circumstances avoid the direct road (R 36) from Lydenburg (now Mashishing) !!! We call it the “Highway to Hell”! It is full of potholes and will definitely cost you some time driving that way. If you are in Lydenburg, rather take the R 37 direction Sabie and enjoy the Tom-Tom pass. Before Sabie turn south direction Ngodwana and take the R 539. You should then come onto the N4. Turn right direction JHB. Then follow the directions from Nelspruit, taking the N4 direction JHB via Machadodorp. After going through the tunnel turn left at the Waterval Boven exit (approx. 3 km after tunnel). In Waterval Boven : Drive under the railway bridge and take the 1st road to the right (Follow our sign). At the stop sign - turn right (sign). Pass the Hospital (NOT the clinic!). The next entrance (400m) to the left is Acra Retreat.
