Spacious, bright & warm Straw-bale Eco House
As soon as you walk into the house you can sense its softness & warmth due to the use of natural materials like straw-bales, clay, lime and wood. The house is situated in an old quarry, which consists of a number of properties also using green building methods and is facing old walnut and cherry trees. As the house is situated in a secluded and sheltered area, from every room and angle you can see trees and greenery. The room is very peaceful and airy with a south facing window. The bed is spacious (King size) and comfortable with a firm foam mattress. Cotton sheets and towels are provided and you have your own kettle to make drinks in the room. The house is very eco friendly. It's a timber frame with straw bale infill as insulation. The windows are triple glazed and timber framed. We have a pellet stove, solar panels, heat recovery, warmcell, sheep's wool and fibre boards with clay plaster and lime render. Virtually no concrete was used in the construction of the house and only non toxic paints (lime wash). We believe we should take care of our planet therefore we're trying our best to use natural and sustainable materials wherever possible. You will normally have the sole use of a bright and spacious modern bathroom opposite your room, with towels provided. You can have your breakfast at the dinning table or outside on the patio, looking out onto the garden and the raised vegetable beds. There is Wi-Fi and depending on network, good mobile phone reception. The rest of the house is private. I will be here to greet you and to give you any information that you need. We are happy to help you make the most of your stay so please if we can be of any assistance, just let us know. If you have any requests or requirements please do get in touch before your stay so we can try to accommodate your wishes. Stoke ferry is a small village with some picturesque walks by the river Ouse. Our neighbourhood is very safe and quiet. We have a local corner shop, pub, two takeaways' (Chinese, Kebab & Pizza), hardware store and blacksmith. There are many sights throughout Norfolk and Suffolk. Oxborough Hall and Gooderstone Water Gardens are 5-10 mins away, Thetford Forest is 20 mins away and Swaffham is a lovely market town which is only 15 mins away. We are an hour from Cambridge, an hour from Norwich and the North Coast is only 40 mins away. The nearest train station is 10 mins away (Downham Market) and a train to London is only 90 mins. Being in a small village there is no significant public transport and a car is a must. Parking is no problem. Breakfast is included - continental style and mainly organic. Toast/ bread, home made granola & preserves, yogurt, tea, coffee and fresh fruit. If you like porridge, just let us know the night before so that I can make sure it'll be ready for you on time. We generally have plant based milks and include gluten-free options for breakfast but just say if there is anything else to consider (we'll get dairy if you prefer). We would ask guests to respect our home and not bring back food to eat in the bedroom. We're happy to let you eat a takeaway in the dinning table by arrangement. We have spent six years building our home (all ourselves:) but don't be surprised if a few things are not quite finished. We love living here and have no doubt you will find it warm and welcoming and fully functional.
