With all of the amenities of the high street on the doorstep and the Yorkshire Dales and Lake District close by, The Grotto is a wonderful family holiday home, all year round. Sorry, no pets and no smoking. Shop and pub 1 min walk. Region: Impressive mountains, open fells and clear-water lakes, the Lake District has it all. From walking in the mountains to exhilarating watersports or just a gentle cruise on a steam-powered yacht, Cumbria is the perfect holiday destination. Town: Situated at the foot of the Howgill Fells in the upper Eden Valley is the old market town of Kirkby Stephen. Set between the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales National Parks this traditional market town hosts a variety of shops, cafes, restaurants and pubs, catering for every taste and budget. With a thriving local community and many traditional old dwellings, Kirkby Stephen boasts a large number of cobbled old yards, quaint corners and a pretty picnic area called Frank's Bridge, whilst just a mile from the town is the old railway station on the Settle to Carlisle Railway line. Visitors can enjoy many excellent walks and cycle routes nearby or explore the magnificent Howgill Fells and the majestic Pendragon Castle.
