We are located in a small French farmersvillage of 300 inhabitats close to the border of Belgium and Luxembourg, within easy reach of the city Verdun and the first world war battlefields. Also Metz and the city of Luxembourg are nearby. Our house was the house of the miller from the former oil mill of the village. We bought the house as a ruïn and Hans rebuilt it over the years. Its cool in summer! The house is situated at the end of the village near the fields. It comfortably fits 2 at 5 guests. Concerning Covid-19: We are aware that we will have to take all the hygienic precautions necessary for the reception of our guests. Between the departure of the previous ones and the arrival of the following ones, there is minimum 24 hours and for cleaning we will do our greatest best. But it is our habit anyway. In this special corona case we will do more than our best, after cleaning we will also disinfect taps, doorknobs and other surfaces with appropriate means such as bleach and / or alcohol. Because we spend much more time cleaning, we now ask for the first time cleaning costs for which we ask for your understanding We are offering part of our house with its own private access. Beside the space were the mill used to be, it is the oldest part of the house. You enter the house through its furnished kitchen diner with a woodstove. In the kitchen you will find a fridge, a gas stove and a microwave. Basic supplies such as salt and pepper, dried herbs and herbal tea from my own garden are also available (In growing season you can pick fresh herbs directly in my garden) Next to the kitchen there is a large room with a queen-size bed and a sitting area, an en-suite shower room and apart a toilet! At the back of the kitchen you will find acces to the stairs going up to the attick. The second bedroom upstairs with a double and a single bed can be rented extra, only on request! for this you pay 10 or 20 euros extra depending on the number of extra guests who are sleeping in this room.. There is No toilet on this floor! If you would like to rent the upstairs room also, send me a message to ask if the room is available and what the price will be. There is ample parking space for several cars and a barn where you can securely store your bikes. In front of the house is a picknick table were you can have your morning coffee. and in the evenings you can sit there and only here the little stream and maybe an owl far away in the wood. There is no television but I have a screen with a dvd player wich you can use if you need it. Anyone who wants to can get a tour in the vegetable garden where I try to garden with new-fashioned ideas such as permaculture, lasagna beds, no-dig beds and a keyhole garden with love for nature. And hereby also give the animals that live above and below ground a place to enjoy it. The part of the house where you will stay is separate with a wall and a door on the attick from the part where we live. You have access to the rented areas mentioned above, as well as the garden in front of the house. Use of the backgarden is normaly ok but in consultation. We are a Dutch couple and are living in Grand Failly for over 20 years. We are generally at home so we are here to help with anything you need. We speak French, English, some German and ofcourse Dutch. And hereby also give the animals that live above and below ground a place to enjoy it. Grand Failly is a small rural village located in north-eastern France. We are ideally positioned for visiting the Verdun battlefields, memorials and cemetaries. In Grand Failly is also a memorial for the death of the battle of Bastogne, they were during this battle temporary buried here in Grand Failly. (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) There is not much to do in Grand-Failly, that is to say if you do not like nature, walking and rest. It is a typical Lorraine farming village with 5 farmers active who have the most mixed company. There is no shop here, (the baker passes 6 days a week to supply bread) and the supermarkets are 6 km away in the town of Longuyon. There are also some boutiques and also three bakers. Belgium attractions like Orval abbey were you can buy beer and cheese, the lovely village Torny, Bouillon. And the beautiful country and city of Luxembourg. Sometimes I have guests who go to a concert in Esch sur Alsette wich is a 45 minut drive. Grand Failly and its surroundings is great for walking and cycling. Another thing that makes this part of France really special to visit are the migratory birds. Most notably cranes choose this area and gather in large numbers to rest and forage on their journeys to and from the Arctic and Africa . Migration northwards starts mostly at the end of February. Migration to the south is less predicable and can, depending on the weather, take from late October until early December Luxembourg (60km) is the nearest airport, Longuyon (8km) is the nearest train station. To fully appreciate the area a car or bike is recommended We offer the base price of 48€ ( holidays 55€) for the bedroom, ensuite shower room and kitchen/diner, all downstairs. so if you are two and you are sleeping together downstairs that is your price! For the upstairsroom 10 euros extra and also 10 euro per extra person, with a max. of 30 euros room inclusive. The house is heated with an "pomp a chaleur".
