Welcome to Souto Verde, a paradise for those seeking to unplug and reconnect to a slower pace of life. We are a working, organic farm set within a natural park in the interior of Portugal. Here you can enjoy the peacefulness of this environment while experimenting with off-grid living. Take a break from usual habits, routines, and expectations and encounter a simple way of living connected to nature and tradition. The guesthouse is set within the garden in an isolated setting about 2km from the nearest village. We live in a house across the road and up the hill near enough to offer assistance when needed but far enough to give a sense of privacy and autonomy. The guest house is completely yours with a bedroom, bathroom with compost toilet and wood-fired water heater, and kitchen. You also have a private patio with shade and access to a natural swimming pool and walking paths. We live on-site in our own home and will be working in the garden during your stay. We are available to answer questions, make recommendations and offer assistance throughout your stay. We are surrounded by wild nature. It is very common to hear, but quite rare to see, wild pigs, foxes and other animals. This is a perfect place for birdwatching and trekking. Ask us for recommendations or view Heidi's guidebook here on Airbnb. The farm is 2km away from the asphalt road leading into Montarecos, the nearest village. If you wish to explore the area you will need your own mode of transportation. There is parking on site. If you will be staying on the farm and wish to use public transportation, ask us about transport to/from Portalegre (nearest bus station) before booking your stay. Get ready to party like it's 1899! We are low/no-tech here in the guest house. This includes: -compost/dry toilet in bathroom (we can change & clean it for you) -wood-fired water heater in bathroom (we'll show you how it all works) -gas range and wood-fired oven in kitchen -solar power system is sufficient to run the refrigerator and charge small devices during the day. All must be disconnected during the night and absolutely no use of hair dryers or other heating devices such as electric kettles. -no wifi (can be arranged for you to use ours outside of our house if needed) -limited cell reception There are three dogs, many cats, and chickens living on site.
