Exclusive to you and with no other guests on board, Puzzle, our 60 foot luxury narrowboat has been fitted out to the highest standard by (probably) the best boatbuilders in the country. She offers all the comforts of a top end luxury flat and is moored in the historic cathedral city of Ely, with excellent rail links to Cambridge and London. This is no ordinary overnight stay. Narrowboat Puzzle has been finished to the highest standards by craftsmen who are amongst Britain's best boat-builders. Puzzle is perhaps not only one of the best narrowboats on Britain's inland waterways, she is arguably moored in one of most desirable locations there is, on the waterfront in the heart of the Cathedral City of Ely. Central London can be reached in just over 1 hour by train and Cambridge is a 20 minutes train journey or 30 minutes by car. Everything on board has been designed for ease of use and the only difference between Puzzle and a bespoke room in a good hotel or boutique B&B is the location and setting. Puzzle has full central heating so no matter how cold it is outside, you are assured that inside is always cosy and warm. In summer, just open the hatches and door and let the gentle breeze flow through the boat. Relax on the foredeck perhaps with a glass of wine or a chilled beer from our natural water-cooled beer and wine chiller or the fridge. We are located next to some excellent pubs and bars too. If you prefer cook for yourself, Ely has a superb range of shops and supermarkets, all of which are only a short walk from Puzzle. We have Freeview TV with many channels and you can listen to your favourite music anywhere on board Puzzle through our Bose Soundlink Mini II speaker. You can use the entire space - it was built for you to enjoy. However, Puzzle is permanently moored so cannot be sailed. Puzzle is situated in a working boat yard where you may see boats being made! This is very much part of the experience and the boat builders very much enjoy talking about what they do. Access to Puzzle requires you to go down a few small steps and sometimes and along a pontoon and/or other boats. This is usually the case with any boat stay. You will always have fixed access to the shore so you will not need to travel by boat to reach Puzzle - The reward for all of this is the amazing riverside views - undoubtably the best in Ely! It's all very easy but if you have mobility difficulties, please do contact us before booking. We live locally and if there's anything you need or are unsure about, we are just a phone call and a few minutes away. Puzzle is moored on the riverside in the historic city of Ely which is approximately 17 miles to the north of Cambridge. Visitors come for many reasons and you will find: Ely Cathedral with its origins in AD 672 Oliver Cromwell's House (kitchen dating back to AD 1215) Topping & Company Booksellers - one of the top bookshops in Great Britain Peakcocks Tearoom - named the Tea Guild's Top Tea Place 2007 Drayman's Son Micro Pub - an amazing selection of ales. King's School Ely is also located nearby and Puzzle is a wonderful base for visitors to the school. Puzzle is located just a few minutes walk from Ely railway station. Technically, you get from the hustle and bustle of central London to the peace and tranquility of the riverside in Ely in just over 1 hour. We also have direct train services to London Stansted Airport, Birmingham International & New Street, Manchester, Peterborough - access could not be easier and if you are coming by car then parking can be arranged free of charge. If you are flying in from Heathrow then you can travel very easily by train or taxi. We can provide you with as much travel advise and information as you need, whichever direction you are coming from As I have stated above, access to Puzzle is very good but if you have any mobility difficulties, please ask so that we can advise and help if possible. Internet access is via wifi which uses the mobile phone signal network (3G). Signal can come and go but on the whole works fine. Don't expect continuous connectivity or superfast download speeds anywhere in Ely. The nearby pubs and cafes do have wifi should you need to get a better connection.
