The Barn @ Vale de Carvao
The Barn is in the Serra de São Mamede Natural Park, near the Rio Sever, in some of the most unspoiled countryside in Portugal. It feels a long way off the beaten track and is a beautifully rustic, quiet and comfortable place to relax and unwind. Swimming in the River is less than 5 minutes walk away and The Barn in right on the walking trails, perfect for exploring the countryside round about. In the winter The Barn is kept cozy by a wood burning stove that guests can also use to cook on if they wish. Pls note: Access to the sleeping platform is via a ladder like staircase so is not suitable for those with limited mobility. There is 12MB Internet, access to washing machine, BBQ, fresh herbs and some garden vegetables in the summer months. We also provide guests with our own home grown and harvested Olive oil, that can also be purchased by the litre as a momento to take home. Vale de Carvão is in the beautiful Serra de São Mamede Natural Park and close by the hill top fortifications of Marvão and Castelo da Vide. There are also Roman ruins at Ameia. There are many local shops and markets, as well as restaurants and bars. However all are a short drive away. Portugal has a very good national bus network, so getting here should not be hard, either by car or public transport. We will be very willing to pick up guests from Santo Antonio or Castelo da Vide, or for a small fuel charge also Portalegre, Nisa or Valencia de Alcantara (Spain).
