Take a deep breath…and relax. Welcome to The Cabin at Mackays. A cosy stylish retreat! Quirky detailing meets contemporary industrial chic. The hiss and crackle of the fire awaits. Kick off your muddy boots or leave your wetsuit at the door. Wake up to the tantalising smell of fresh baked croissants from the village store before heading out to explore our stunning beaches and rugged hills. No matter what the weather the cabin will meet your every need. There are two bedrooms, but we think The Cabin is perfect for a couple. The double bedroom offers a quiet sanctuary should you wish to escape to a more intimate space, a handmade kingsized feather topped bed and a smaller twin room is perfect for children or friends. The finest French linens are used throughout each room and we can easily make these feather free if required. Delectably warm for those intrepid winter visitors, a wood fired stove for ambience, and underfloor heating for generous warmth and comfort. The cabin has been fitted with wood facing to make a warm cosy environment. Industrial style lighting for you to adapt to suit your mood. The kitchen is a hand built gorgeous mix of copper and inky back surfaces. As dedicated foodies we have provided you with the tools to cook as little or as often as you like, The Cabin features an easy to use oven and oversized fridge and (for those who do not want to wash up on holiday) we have a slimline dishwasher. For dining, a raised butchers block with tall chairs. The open plan kitchen area flows to the lounge, comfy settees and seating, perfect for watching movies, socialising or curling up with a good book. Or take it outside and watch village life unfold on our generous covered deck. (For your convenience a washing machine is on hand in your cute woodstore just outside) Guests have full private access to all areas of the house. There are no hidden extras - all fuel for fire etc is supplied. The only rules are look after the house and have a great time. We like to meet our guests but give complete privacy unless our advice and attention is required. Durness lies in the county of Sutherland on the North West tip of Great Britain. The wild remote and beautiful expanse of Cape Wrath enjoys one of the most dramatic landscapes in Europe - a perfect holiday destination . An abundance of wildlife and vast open space create an overwhelming experience. The village of Durness is surrounded by some of the best walking locations in the world and an endlessly fascinating environment, made for exploring. A combination of spectacular natural features, not least the stunning coastline of towering cliffs, golden beaches backed by rugged mountains and expansive moorland have ensured our region boasts a well deserved reputation as a walkers paradise. On any given day, you may find yourself strolling along sandy beaches, spotting whales and puffins from our epic cliffs or even paying a visit to the ghost of the bearded sailor at Sandwood Bay. There is on-site private parking at The Cabin. The house is located in the heart of the village and features, but as Durness is a very remote village realistically a car is essential! Surrounded by nature there is so much to experience and enjoy! Close walk to golden beaches, local shops, bars & restaurant. Useful Info and Handy Hints: If you would like me to arrange local fish, shellfish or meat please e-mail me a week before your arrival and I will do my best to get the local produce requested.  In regards to fish there is always an excellent selection of white fish, salmon, smoked fish (hot or cold smoked) as well as seasonal dependent choices such as crab, mussels or scallops. If you let me know quantities (or weight) and preferred alternatives I can get them ready for your arrival or arrange for a midweek pick up of fish on Wednesday. Alternatively you can come to the village on Wednesday at 10:45 in the car park next to the small shop, or on Friday afternoon next to Mackay's and choose the fish you would like directly from the fish van. The last large major supermarkets are in Inverness or a smaller Tesco in Ullapool. There are two great local stores in the village of Durness and we encourage all our visitors to shop local. It really does make a tremendous difference to support local businesses in remote areas like ourselves. On your way, you may like to break up the journey, there is a delightful farm shop and deli, with a café 30 min north of Inverness, called the Store House In Lairg, there is an excellent café with beautiful river and forest walks called the Falls of Shin Alternatively The Pier Café in Lairg does excellent coffee and cakes. They are both half way between Inverness and Durness. If there is anything at all I can do for you please just ask and I will do my very best to help!
