A delightful townhouse, converted from a former granary in the heart of Stamford. The location, just a one minute from the train station, and around the corner from the famous George Hotel - one of England's oldest inns, provides the perfect base for exploring the town's unique blend of history, niche-shopping and magnificent Georgian architecture. The house has two double bedrooms, a day room with a sofa bed, a fully equipped kitchen, and a large top-floor lounge with stunning views. Proclaimed by Sir Walter Scott as “the finest stone town in England”, Stamford was declared a conservation area in 1967 and has over 600 listed buildings of mellow limestone including five medieval churches. Stamford is a bustling, prosperous market town and has a wide range of shops, hostelries and attractions. There is a thriving high street, only a few minutes walk away, with coffee shops, restaurants and a vast range of retailers to tempt you. The Arts Centre; built in 1768 it is one of the oldest provincial theatres in England, and holds many events throughout the year. The Steam Brewery, Browne’s Hospital’s and the 12th century ruins of St Leonard’s Priory are all worth a look. You may well find an event going on in the riverside Meadows, adjacent to the George Hotel and the river Welland. On the outskirts of Stamford, and within easy walking distance of the Granary, is one of the most impressive Elizabethan houses in England, Burghley House - with eighteen treasure-filled state rooms, the stunning Garden of Surprises and the sculpture garden. The Granary is a one minute walk from the railway station If driving, parking in central Stamford can be a challenge. There is limited parking on the road opposite the property - we find people can usually park there. If not - there is a large car park by the meadows - about a one minute walk away.
