North Norfolk cottage
If you want to experience the big skies of North Norfolk, this is the place to do it. Set in the middle of rural farmland and in a large plot , only 4 miles to the popular coastal villages of Thornham and Holme, and their lovely sandy beaches (not to mention 3 miles from Ringstead and the renowned Gin Trap Inn) our ex farm workers cottage offers fresh, simple, spacious accommodation which has been sensitively renovated whilst still retaining period features and charm. The cottage is a semi-detached, ex farm workers cottage. The kitchen is fully equipped and cooking is through a Rayburn (there is a microwave as well). We have very recently had a new hot water and heating system installed which runs independently of the Rayburn. The sitting room has an incredibly effective wood burning stove and you will be left with an ample supply of logs. All 3 bedrooms in the cottage are upstairs 2 being double rooms (one triple aspect) with king size beds and one twin, and have great views over farmland. Please be aware that the stairs are quite steep being traditional Norfolk winder stairs. The whole cottage and front and back gardens are available for guests . Access to the out building (and garden shed) is currently restricted although likely to be available as additional sleeping space in the summer. The sitting room is at the back of the cottage and has bi fold doors which , when completely opened, bring the outside in with panoramic country/paddock views. When its "wine o'clock" there is an outside area which catches the last few hours of sunshine and which is a great space for a sun-downer. The drinking station has a set of garden furniture suitably placed to catch the last of the suns rays. To this end, one of the fridges in the kitchen will be stocked with wine and beer and run as an honesty bar. The place has been our much loved and much needed Norfolk getaway for a number of years and has been kitted out with hedonism and relaxation in mind. Should you want you can be met on arrival so we can tell you a bit about the place. That's totally up to you. Should you wish, we can offer certain activities during your stay (weather, season and availability of personnel permitting) such as fly fishing on a lovely little river for brown trout (you will need to be relatively experienced due to the size of the river and bank trees and hedges ); bee related activities (honey collection) and golf at a local course. For more info just speak to us prior to booking. We will have for you a file of instructions on how things work and information on the local area etc. Exceptionally quiet! Other than the immediate cottage neighbours there are only 2 other houses in sight. There are no street lights and so for star gazing, the spot is perfect. In terms of finding the property, please note that it is on a private farm road / track which runs off the Docking to Ringstead Road. We will explain exactly how to find the property once all booked up. You will need a car to get around due to the rural nature of the property's location. The garden is effectively split into 2, both parts laid primarily to lawn. There is also a large paved area at the back, laid with yorkstone. The front garden has a couple of large borders planted with a mixture of perennials and wild flowers. We are quite into wild flowers and allow self seeding so don't expect the patio to be ox daisy or corn marigold free. At the front of the plot is a large graveled driveway with parking for 3 cars and maybe even a boat..... The rear garden has a low fence backing onto a large paddock occupied (usually) by Red Poll cattle and their calves together with hares, partridge, deer, Barn owls and pheasants (always). The "drinking station" is ideally placed to commune with all the birds, bees and animals. Finally, even though we do not allow dogs, for those with pet allergies, please note that dogs have been here in the past.
