Set in glorious countryside on the moor side at the Northern most tip of the Peak District National Park, and on the route of the Pennine Way, Nell's Cottage at Diggle House Farm offers two bedroom (King and Single) accommodation, sleeping three people in comfort. Nell's Cottage at Diggle House Farm is a great location if you simply want to get away from the hustle and stress of daily life. Ideally placed to access all the local villages and events, with beautiful walks from the farm gate! Diggle House Farm houses a working farm, Cattery, Livery yard and three 4* cottages offering self catering accommodation: Nell's Cottage has two bedrooms and sleeps three in comfort. Sorry, we don’t accept dogs. Offering breathtaking uninterrupted views over open fields and across the valley and with it's own south facing garden to sit out in, this cottage is a firm favourite! Upstairs, Nell's Cottage has a Kingsize bedroom with spectacular views, a full size single bedroom and a good sized bathroom (with bath and Grohe shower over) and heated towel rail. Downstairs is open plan living and, with a fully equipped kitchen, dining table and chairs, leather sofa and wall mounted TV/DVD, Nell's Cottage offers spacious and comfortable accommodation. Underfloor heating downstairs and radiators upstairs, with high levels of insulation make Nell's Cottage snug and warm, and with a fully stocked kitchen with electric oven/hob, dishwasher, microwave and washing machine it really is a home from home! A woodburning stove and fireplace offers a focal point, and comes with a starter pack of logs/wood. Nell's Cottage is fully self contained: it has all the "mod cons" you would hope for including fully fitted kitchen and bathroom. In addition it has it's own South facing garden with patio area and table and chairs. The garden is a real sun trap and offers a great place to relax and take in breathtaking views and oodles and oodles of fresh country air! Parking is in a dedicated car park (not directly outside the cottage). Our farm is owned and worked by us as a family. We are on site all the time, but not in your face at all - your cottage is completely independent and you come and go as you please. We are there if you need us though. Diggle House Farm is well placed to access all the local attractions. Saddleworth is rich in culture and heritage and there are many things to do: walking, cycling or horse riding over the hills, boating activities at Dovestones, exploring the Roman ruins at Castleshaw or taking a ride on a canal boat through the longest, highest and deepest canal tunnel in Britain. (Over three miles!) Diggle itself has the entrance to the Stanndege tunnel, (one end of it anyway!), and through the summer trips can be taken through it, starting from the Standege Visitors Centre in Marsden. Just a short walk down the towpath is Grandpa Greene's Ice Cream parlour and Cafe, serving delicious home made ice creams, snacks and drinks. Sit, relax and watch the world go by, and maybe chat to the folk passing on a narrow boat as they navigate the lock. Diggle also has two good pubs, both of which serve food, and the Diggle Chippy - serving great food and housed in a quirky, listed building. There is also Diggle Band Club, home of two Brass Bands, and the venue for a number of music events throughout the year. Diggle hosts one of the Whit Friday Brass Band contests and also has an annual Blues Festival, so if music is your passion, a visit when these are taking place will really get your foot tapping! Diggle House Farm is a great location if you simply want to get away from the hustle and stress of daily life. A mile out of the village, there are walks from the farm gate in various directions, or you could simply sit outside your beautiful cottage and soak up the country air. If you are looking for a holiday that is eco-friendly and want to do your bit to help save the planet, you have come to the right place! Our farm has five sets of solar panels, so charge your phone up from the sun! We have both a Ground Source and an Air Source Heat Pump for all heating and hot water, so bathe in water heated from the earth. There are many places to go for a day out; Spend time around Saddleworth - eat in one of the many local bistros or coffee shops, browse in the local art galleries, museums or gift shops, or visit one of the local craft shops. You could sample locally brewed beers in one of the many local pubs. Other places are very easy to get to for a day out: Holmfirth (Last of the Summer Wine country), Marsden (Where the Heart Is), Hebden Bridge, Howarth and Bradford's famous Saltaire Heritage site (home to a massive David Hockney collection) are all within easy reach. If you can't resist having a "Mega Shop", how about going to Manchester's famous Trafford Centre or the Arndale? Or hopping into Leeds with it's Victoria Quarter? Manchester’s Christmas markets, which open in November, are extremely popular. There are Indoor Snow Centres, Mountain Biking, theatres, heritage centres, music venues; all within easy reach! Without a doubt, there really is something for everyone! Diggle House Farm is reached by well maintained country lanes and is well signposted. We are approx. 1 mile from the nearest bus route (to Oldham/Manchester or Huddersfield) The nearest railway station is Greenfield (approx. 3.5 miles away) Diggle House Farm is a farm! It is located approximately one mile from the centre of the nearest village. The road to the farm is tarmac and well maintained. Some of our foreign visitors, that are used to large freeways, consider the lanes to be narrow, but we do not have any problems getting deliveries or driving tractors and trailers to the farm. We have animals including horses, cattle, sheep and poultry. In addition there is plenty of wildlife: pheasants, birds, rabbits, hares, owls and foxes. We have even seen deer!
