Elmhurst - stylish, stone built, renovated, self catering holiday cottage in the village of Ovingham on the north bank of the River Tyne. It sleeps four people comfortably in two double bedrooms made up as twin or double facilities. A store-away bed can be set up in the larger bedroom enabling facilities for five. Ground floor - dining kitchen with all necessary amenities and a living room with inglenook fireplace and wood burning stove. A gravel courtyard area with flower beds to the rear. The self contained holiday cottage is well suited for couples, families and friends. A well behaved pet is welcome. It features all the amenities required for a comfortable holiday break: from wood burning stove in the living room to an outdoor barbecue in the quiet, enclosed yard to the rear. The area is ideal for walking and cycling. It provides an ideal base for a gentle, relaxed break or a family adventure exploring the history and countryside of the Tyne Valley and Northumberland. The cottage has a front garden with seating area facing south and is situated a few metres from the graceful churchyard of St Mary the Virgin where the famous illustrator and engraver Thomas Bewick is buried. An 18th century packhorse bridge spans the Whittle Burn which runs into the Tyne a short distance down the road. Located next door to the old Ovingham village post office, Elmhurst was built in the 19th century as the postmistress’s house. To the rear of the cottage is a secluded area with seating area, firepit and barbecue. The property has been newly renovated as a holiday cottage and finished to a high standard. Ovingham village is well placed for excursions to the numerous historical sites along the river; from Roman Corbridge to the old medieval abbey town of Hexham. The Tyne Valley countryside is ideal for walking and cycling with its quiet lanes and stop-off, viewing points of the river. Cherryburn, the charming cottage and farm of Bewick’s birth, is a mile or so across the single lane nineteenth century iron bridge spanning the river. Hadrian’s Wall with its spectacular Roman sites, walks and museums is less than thirty minutes away by car. A five minute walk to the railway station connects Elmhurst holiday cottage with Newcastle fifteen miles to the east and Carlisle fifty miles to the west. The train stops at a series of delightful villages including Corbridge and Brampton and the town of Hexham. The journey takes in the magnificent views of Northumberland and the Tyne Valley. Bus services connect the towns and villages in the Valley and extend to Hadrians Wall, Kielder and the North Pennines. The cottage will be unoccupied for a minimum of one night between guests enabling full ventilation of the property between stays. Keys can be collected from the key safe close by the property. In addition to our rigorous cleaning schedule, we sanitize all high-touch surfaces, using cleaners and disinfectants approved by global health agencies. Protective gear is used during the cleaning process to help prevent cross-contamination. Additional cleaning supplies are provided for guest use during their stay. Elmhurst is in compliance with government requirements, guidelines and risk assessment associated with the current Covid situation.
