Spacious farmhouse in a beautiful nature reserve
This spacious family home was once a traditional working farm. It is set in a nature reserve, with stunning views of the islands southern coastline. Eat breakfast under the cherry tree, or enjoy dinner in the old ruin, converted from a pigsty, or head into the hen house, now converted to a greenhouse, for drinks on cooler evenings. The large garden with its tree house and veggie patch backs directly onto the nature reserve of Voderup Klint under Natura 2000, and the sea, which is only 300m away. The open kitchen dining area is has plenty of space, and the main living room has a lovely wood burner and plenty of books on the bookshelf. We have a telescope, table football, children's toys and games available, and a fire pit in the garden for those late summer evenings. There is plenty of private parking space in the courtyard. The niegnbours chickens, and cat pops by occasinaly, and it's a rural area with a few neighbours nearby. You have the whole place to yourselves :-) We live only a few kilometers away in Ærøskøbing and so are on hand to help if you need us! The house is surrounded by a nature reserve, with rare plants and grazing cattle. It is very peaceful, and boasts stunning sunsets and birdlife. The island of Ærø is sometimes referred to as Denmark's best-kept secret. It has natural beauty, rolling countryside and clean empty beaches, and also the historic and protected charming fairytale town of Ærøskøbing, which looks like it has come straight out of a Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale. Mongst its cobbled streets and colourful old crooked houses you can soak up the atmosphere and enjoy some excellent authentic restaurants, shops and cafés. The nearby town of Marstal has a remarkable maritme history - the island was once a major shipping centre back in the late 1800s and is also a worth a visit. Ærø is very uncommercialized; there is very little traffic and many people walk or cycle. The buses are free to everyone, and there is a bus stop 1.5 km from the house, with only a 10-minute ride to Ærøskøbing. The population of Ærø is just under 6000, and the island is small and easy to navigate around - there is one "main" road down the middle of the island. The "Archipelago Way" is a beautiful walking route which mainly goes along the coast of the island, and there are approved bike routes too. The farmhouse is situated in a Natura 2000 area, so there are plenty of birds and cows on the neigbouring field.
