The high ceilings add to make the room feel particularly spacious and the large french windows opening onto the garden allow the natural light to flood in. The dining area has a quality contemporary glass dining table which comfortably seats 6 people and the talking point is always the unusual clock, that was carried back from Spain after a city break! In the sitting room area, the sumptuous and large elegant sofas invite you to snuggle up and watch TV or chat the night away. The TV has an amazon fire stick so you catch up on your favourite programs or download a film. The French windows open out onto the level-enclosed garden. From Payton Gardens, you can walk into Cookham Village where you can eat, shop or take the train to Marlow, Windsor, or even central London. Cookham itself has an amazing butcher, French Delicatessen, and a fabulous general store. In the old part of the village, there is also a great gift/party shop, ladies' clothes shop, a cycle shop, and a truly outstanding model railway shop. It is also worth taking the opportunity to visit the renowned Spencer Gallery. Cookham is most definitely spoilt for choice for pubs and restaurants. At our last count, we counted 14 pubs/restaurants dotted through the Dean and the village. The Thames flows through the village and a walk to the lock is most definitely a great way to spend an hour or so, watch the boats come and go. with a few pubs dotted along the way! Most arguably Cookham will have been an inspiration for the Author, Kenneth Grahame, as Cookham was his childhood home. The beautiful town of Marlow is less than 3 miles away. Marlow is most famous for suspension the bridge, which is a scaled-down version of the suspension bridge in Budapest, Hungry, both built by William Tierney Clark and the Compleat Angler Hotel. Marlow has a fabulous park, on the edge of the river, where you can feed the ducks, hire a small boat or simply stroll along the Thames path. Marlow also has 2 Michelin Starred Restaurants, as well a good variety of other restaurants, and shopping. Boats can be hired for trips up or down the Thames from the Park. There are also some beautiful shops in Marlow for those needing a little retail therapy. On the other side of Cookham is Maidenhead; also within a 3-mile drive. Here there is a new modern leisure centre, crazy golf near to the Thames. For couples and adults, The famous Waterside, Fat Ducks & Crown at Bray are on the outskirts of Maidenhead. The Roux at Skindles offers great food and Cocktails on the Thames. Cliveden is great for families and couples, the gardens are worth a visit (for children the maze is a hit), and of course, you can always spoil yourself at the spa or the great culinary delights offered by the Hotel. There is a bus stop close to the house. The train station is a 5-minute walk (cutting through the park) giving access to Maidenhead, Marlow, Windsor, Reading, Henley & London with ease. The house & garden are for the sole use of our guests and we have 2 dedicated parking spaces. There are numerous Taxis companies and Uber is available. We have written a guide with all the local attractions to make the most of your stay and also recommendations to some of our favourite pubs, takeaways and restaraunts. Our home is in a cul-de-sac in a quiet residential area on the edge of Cookham Village and a stone's throw to Cookham Dean, the River Thames, and the Cookham Moor. The house is also a short walk from the Station, making this an ideal location for visitors who want to visit London, Windsor, Henley, and Oxford. The bus stop is 5 minutes walk from the house, giving access to Maidenhead and Bourne End and the Station is 10 minutes walk. From the station you can catch the Marlow Donkey (train) to Bourne End & Marlow or a train to Maidenhead which gives quick access to London Paddington. There are a good number of local taxis always available. Charges for pets: If you are staying up to 30 nights we charge per £5.00 night for up to 2 pets.
