An old cob built cottage, with Victorian brick additions, and a big kitchen added 20 years ago. The front gates open onto the New Forest, so you can walk or bike straight out for miles. Very quiet, with only the owls at night, and no street lights outside. We have another double room, which would only be let to your party. This would give a total of 5 guests. Book through the second listing (Cove Cottage, bedroom 2) or contact us. This is a place that really needs you to have a car. It is a good place for families, but also perfect for anyone wanting peace and quiet. If you want to make hot drinks or snacks, or pack lunches you can use kitchen and the gas hob and electric fan oven. Also the washing machine is there to use by arrangement. My husband Derek and I live here. Our own bedroom and bathroom are the other side of the landing, so you will have privacy and space to relax. You can share our kitchen, and we will make you a breakfast of tea and coffee, cereal, yogurt, toast and home-made jams; and answer any questions about good places to visit. We can make you a full cooked breakfast for an extra £5 per person. This part of the New Forest is made up mostly of mature beech and oak trees, also open heathland. Plants, birds and insects are studied here. Riding schools take visitors out to see the country on horseback. I can help you book if you are interested. There are several good pubs in the area, serving food. The Lamb is about a mile, an easy walk. We can offer information about travel in the area, and there are maps and computer access. There are a few busses a day to Southampton and Salisbury, but you really do need a car here! Trains to London and the West Country are about 25 minutes drive away, as is Southampton airport. Bedrooms are on the first floor, the stairs are wide and not particularly steep. Guests will have exclusive use of the ground floor bathroom, and the front sitting room. The cottage has air heat-pump central heating, and there is always lots of hot water for your bath. The only shower works well but it is in our bathroom. If you want a shower just arrange it with us. Mobile reception can be poor, depending on the network. Smaller children must be supervised at all times as there are two ponds and a steep stream bank in the garden. There are very few busses on limited routes. The station is ten miles away.
