Built in 1634, the Barn is on the edge of a village 5m from Market Harborough in Leicestershire. We converted it in 2017, and it's on our property, but separate from it. Light and airy, it's open plan downstairs, with areas for cooking, dining and relaxing. French doors lead out onto a pretty courtyard garden, with stone steps up to a raised area, where you can watch the sunset over the fields. Upstairs there's a well-equipped bedroom and bathroom with far reaching views over the countryside. Looking out two sets of French doors to the back courtyard garden, there’s a sitting room area with a sofa and comfy chair. We have a Smart 55in curved TV with surround sound and Netflix as well as a DVD player. There are films to watch, games to play and books to read. The WiFi speed is 50 Mbps, and super fast, making The Barn a great open plan work space too. The dining table seats four and works well as a desk. The kitchenette areas are small but fully functional. There's a line of units with a fridge, small sink, coffee machine and kettle. On the dresser area there's a Combi Microwave that has three functions: a normal oven, a grill and a microwave. There's also a toaster, a plug-in single ring induction hob and a prep area. All cooking utensils and cookware is stored in the dresser cupboards. Espresso coffee machine capsules are provided as well as a range of teas. You won't turn up needing much: we provide towels, sheets, loo rolls, milk, basic condiments and fairy liquid. Upstairs, the double bed is a standard size, and although there are eaves and beams, there is plenty of headroom where you need it. The door to the bedroom is low, so watch your head in the middle of the night if you go to the loo! Outside the bathroom there is an area where a Futon mattress can be popped down, and an extra person, or two at a push, could sleep if need be. There's a lovely courtyard garden with lots of places to sit in the sunshine, raised vegetable beds and flowers. Up some steep stone steps there's a platform area, (we call it a gin terrace...), from which you can watch the sunset over views of the fields. There is a low wall at the front of the terrace, with a six foot drop beneath it into a field, which is usually occupied by sheep or cows. Although safe for sober adults, it is not recommended for the inebriated, infirm or young children. In terms of your privacy, although the Barn is in our garden, it is to one side of it, and the courtyard garden will feel like yours. That said, you might see us around, as the tool shed and veg patch may need to be accessed by us during your stay. We won't be in your face, but we may need to do some gardening! But if you do need anything, we'll usually be there to help or advise. We are usually around but not always, and will aim to be helpful if you need us to be, and discreet if you want us to be. That said, we always seem to be in the garden at the weekends, and you may see us around. The Barn is on the edge of a quiet, pretty village with a good pub a few minutes walk away, that serves better than average pub food. There are walks straight from the house, and the pretty towns of Market Harborough, Uppingham, Oakham and Stamford are 10, 20, 30 and 40 minutes away. Corby is 10 minutes away and has an Olympic sized pool with diving boards, a cinema and theatre. There are plenty of great restaurants nearby ranging from the Michelin starred Hambleton Hall near Oakham to the cosy gastropub, Bakers Arms in Thorpe Langton. The pretty village of Medbourne, a ten minute drive away, has the Cafe Neville, which does a great breakfast and is popular with cyclists who gather there at weekends. Local attractions include Rockingham Castle, Kirby Hall, Burghley House and Rutland Water. We're in the country - you need a car to get around! It's worth noting, however, that London is less than an hour away on a direct train from Market Harborough and very doable as a day trip from here. There is room to park on the drive, but we have three cars so it will be a bit tight.
