Close to Amsterdam, Alkmaar and Zaandam is a unique piece of Holland: the island "De Woude". Situated in the “Alkmaardermeer” (lake Alkmaar) it is only surrounded by water and can also only be reached by a ferry!! Once you leave the ferry and set your feet on the island you will be captivated by the "island feeling": away from the daily hustle and bustle, everything here has its own special rhythm The cottage is furnished in original 50’s style and has all amenities and a large terrace The cottage is cozy and colorful in style of the 50’s. On the ground floor there is a living room , and a double bedroom with a sink.The living area opens onto a fully equipped kitchen. The bathroom is equipped with toilet, large shower, sink and floor heating. Towels are provided. Through the staircase you reach the 2 bedrooms. Both rooms are equipped with a 2 person bed. . In these rooms you will feel again the time of the 50’s. The beds, the dressing table, lamps are designed in the style of the 50’s. Both bedrooms have spacious wardrobes. Directions: "De Woude" is easily to reach from Zaandam, Alkmaar and Purmerend. Along the island "De Woude" runs the N246 (Alkmaar / Zaanstad). The island is only accessible by a ferry (ferry is also for cars). The ferry runs daily and as needed. Ferry travel times: Sunday to Thursday until 23.00 pm Friday and Saturday until 24.00 pm Situated at the beginning of the village are two nice restaurants - both on the waterside, so that you can easily relax on the terrace. In the summer will pass by endless boats. Also for people that appreciate Watersport "De Woude" is very popular! Who does not own a private boat can rent one at the little marina of Uitgeest (10 km). And also the fishermen will find everything to heart here - the island is in perfect fishing waters (permit required, (Website hidden by Airbnb) The children feel here like in paradise. On the island, the traffic is extremely limited and so children can play outside, do cycling or play football without worries. On the channel "Markervaart" there is a little floating dock from where you can enjoy a swim. Right in front of our "Guesthouse" is a small petting zoo where children find a few animals to cuddle. In short, the island offers lot of different things for everyone. Surrounding: The Island "De Woude" is a nature reserve of the Dutch Forestry Commission and is one of the richest bird areas of the country. It therefore is no wonder that the island is repeatedly described as very idyllic and a magnet for bird lovers. If you want to get to know the island and its magnificent polder landscape it is the easiest way to walk around it. The hike is about 7.5 km and offers a wonderful view over the bird area and the “Alkmaardermeer”. At a distance of 6km also lies the picturesque village "Graft-De Rijp" where you will find many monumental cottages, cozy cafes, restaurants and shops. All this located in the "Eilandspolder", a beautiful walking area in the "Land of Leeghwater". The beaches of Castricum, Egmond and Bergen lie on approximately 25 km distance from the island There is no public transportation nearby our appartment. The nearest trainstation is at 7.5 km distance, and the nearest busstop is at 3 km distance. Directions: "De Woude" is easily to reach from Zaandam, Alkmaar and Purmerend. Along the island "De Woude" runs the N246 (Alkmaar / Zaanstad). The island is only accessible by a ferry!! (ferry is also for cars) The ferry runs daily and as needed, it has to cross a small canal about 60 meters. Ferry travel times: Sunday to Thursday until 11 pm Friday and Saturday until 12 pm After that you can't get to the appartment!! So if you want to visit the nightlife of Amsterdam, this is not the ideal place for you too stay, because of the ferry travel times.
