This ground floor cottage dating back to the 1780's is positioned in a delightful rural setting, in the heart of the Peak District. Next to the Monsal Trail . Perfect for singles or couples. The cottage is ideal for exploring bike or on foot. Litton Mill is a beautiful hamlet, centred around the former textile mill. Monsal Cottage has direct access to the Monsal Trail - a traffic free route for walkers, cyclists, and horse riders, with wheelchair access at various points. The trail runs for 8.5 miles along the former Midland Railway line between Blackwell mill, Chee Dale and Bakewell. **We have made the difficult decision to no longer take dogs in the cottage but will honor and welcome dogs with bookings made prior to 25.01.22** Monsal Cottage has two steps into the cottage, it is on a ground floor with an open plan longue-diner-kitchen, one bedroom with a double bed and a bathroom with electric shower over the bath. There is one step up to the toilet. It is not sutable for a full time wheelchair user, but may be suitable for those with some mobility difficulties. (If in any doubt, please contact us well ahead to discuss in more detail) From your front door there is access on foot up a steep 100 walk, or for flat access Millers Dale station or Hassop station. (Short drives away each with toilets and cafe). The Tissington and High Peak Trails are also close by. We welcome cyclists and provide secure storage, a bike cleaning area and charging points for your bikes. Fantastic cycling for all abilities from your door step. There are tunnels and the famous Viaduct at Monsal Head on the way to Bakewell. On the banks of the River Wye. This lovely property features an open plan, well equipped, kitchen-diner and lounge, a pleasant double bedroom and bathroom with bath/electric shower. You will have exclusive access to the whole of the cottage which is self contained. The Peak District National Park, with so many miles cycling and walking on your door step. There are two stone steps up into the cottage which is then on a single floor. There is a step in bath / shower. There is a single step up to the toilet. Sadly, the cottage is not wheelchair freindly for those who need constant access via their wheelchair. See listing details for flat access to the Monsal Trail. We live nearby but are not always available during each stay. We endeavor to answer any queries sent via Airbnb messaging as promptly as possible. Water Cum Jolly - a tranquil walk by the river towards Cressbrook, Stunning scenery - can be muddy so boots advised during wetter seasons. Millers Dale Station has recently reopened after restoration, with a cafe and car parking along the Monsal Trail. This area offers flat access to the Monsal Trail, ideal for wheelchairs, prams and mobility scooters. The Anglers Rest at Millers Dale - 20 mins walk - dog and family friendly is open every day for good pub food and a choice of well kept real ales. Litton - a 7 minute drive away has the Red Lion pub providing meals and well kept ales Tideswell - 10 minute drive away - The stunning ‘Cathedral of the Peak’ is well served by its small Co-op and locally owned butchers, fruit and veg, post office, chemist, bakery and gift shop, restaurants and cafes. We also recommend the Horse and Jockey in Tideswell for a dog friendly pub serving traditional pub food as well the Red Lion at Litton For days out, we would recommend * Bakewell - pretty market town and home of the ‘original’ Bakewell pudding shops * Buxton - lovely Spa town with an Opera House and cinema. All market town amenities including a mainline train station. * Castleton - pretty town housing Blue John, Treak and Speedwell Caverns *Chatsworth House - stunning house and gardens Many great walks from the doorstep There is a public bus service (Stagecoach no. 65) from Millers Dale (Angler's Rest Stop) to Buxton, Tideswell, Bakewell and Sheffield Mainline train via Buxton offers access to all parts of the country. COVID-19 update: We take the health and wellbeing of our guests and neighbours seriously. To this end during the pandemic we are regularly reviewing Government and Airbnb guidelines, in particular on cleaning and Social Distancing guidance. We want you to have a relaxing holiday and stay well while in the cottage. We have strict cleaning and disinfecting procedures in place that our cleaners follow after a check out to do our upmost to keep guests well and able to relax and able to enjoy their well earned holiday in this beautiful area. We will be leaving additional paper towels and bleach based sprays for you should you wish to use them. If you develop Covid-19 symptoms, we ask please that you carry out a lateral flow test and contact us or Airbnb as soon as is possible and arrange to cancel your stay. We would be very happy to host you at a time when you are feeling well enough to enjoy yourself. Please do not come to the cottage if you or the person you are staying with has symptoms. If during your stay you develop symptoms, please let us know via messaging us rather than face to face contact. We can then discuss ways to reduce the risk of spread to others who will need to enter the cottage after you leave.
