Set on the edge of the Howardian Hills & a stone’s throw from the Yorkshire Dales, North Yorkshire Moors & the East Coast, there are plenty of things to do & see. This quaint country cottage, converted from an old Cow Shed, has been carefully renovated to incorporate lots of character, original features & a cosy, homely atmosphere. Situated on a quiet street in a pretty village, the local pub is 5 minutes’ walk and the nearest market town is just 5 minutes by car. The kitchen is fully equipped, with dishwasher, microwave, toaster, kettle and fridge freezer. There is also an Aga which can be lit for use at an additional cost (£5 per night). For those not familiar with the Aga, there is also an electric oven/gas hob. The lounge is spacious, with two sofas (one a double sofa bed), coffee table and pine TV stand with a 28” colour TV. There is a gas stove set within a lovely feature alcove, which can be used in addition to the Underfloor heating. There is free Wi-fi at the Cottage, and the TV has built in Freeview, with a separate Blu-ray player, plus a selection of DVD’s/books/games/CDs for your enjoyment. The lounge leads out into the separate sun room, which is a lovely room overlooking the drive and garden and can be used as a quiet room or as an office, as it features a beautiful desk and chair, as well as a seating area. The downstairs bathroom features a built in shower, which has a pull-down seat and handrail for those less able. There is also a washing machine and separate tumble drier, should they be needed. The master bedroom is equipped with a Queen sized bed, is tastefully decorated with a full length mirror, hairdryer and a remote control TV. The second cosy bedroom features a small double bed, dressing table and mirror. The bathroom upstairs has a lovely cosy feel, with a full sized bath with shower mixer tap. Wardrobe space for both bedrooms is on the large galleried landing area. The garden is laid to patio and grass, with mature trees and shrubs, and is a lovely private area with various seating options dotted around. Watch the birds feed from the feeders and enjoy the sounds of the country and village as you sip your morning coffee (or tipple of choice!). Parking for 2 cars is available on the private drive plus a cycle rack to secure any cycles. Everywhere Your host does not live on site but can be there to greet you if required. We are only 10 minutes away by car and can be contacted by telephone with any queries. The local market town of Malton is known as Yorkshire’s Food Capital – with a monthly food market on the 2nd Saturday of every month and several Flagship events throughout the year, including the Marathon du Malton, Beertown and Meadowfest, our own Boutique Music Festival. There are several historic houses in the area, the most famous being Castle Howard, but also Duncombe Park, Scampston, Hovingham and Nunnington Halls, with beautiful gardens and stunning architecture. If you love walking or cycling, Dalby Forest is a short drive away, and the beautiful North Yorkshire Moors offers magnificent scenery. If the coast is your preference, Scarborough, Filey, Whitby or Robin Hoods Bay are all easily accessible and offer some fantastic award winning beaches and cliff walks. Locally, Flamingoland zoo and theme park offers activities for all the family, as does Eden Camp, our 2nd World War Museum set on the site of an original POW camp. Why not tie in a trip to the annual War Weekend in Pickering which is held every October. Helmsley is another local historic town, just a short drive away - the market square is a hive of activity, with a variety of shops and food outlets. Take a stroll around the town, visit the Castle and its gardens/nursery, or take a walk through Duncombe Park grounds and parkland, or visit Yorkshire's only 25m heated outdoor swimming pool. The nearest market town of Malton is just 10 minutes by car (there is also a local bus service which runs during the day between Malton and Swinton, where the Cottage is, and on to Hovingham – another lovely Village with a market on the first Saturday of every month). There is a train station in Malton, which can take you to Scarborough, York, Leeds and beyond, and the bus station is directly opposite, with regular bus services to the East Coast and York, Harrogate and Leeds. There is a travel cot available upon request - please specify when making your booking so this can be set up for your arrival. If you require the Aga to be lit, please also specify when making your booking (there is an additional charge of £5 per day for this facility).
