A truly unique hand crafted living space can be found within this restored & converted 1967 Bedford horse lorry Douglas. Buried within the Norfolk wildlife, you'll find the hidden off grid eco-friendly space. With 1/2 an acre of wildflower set outside the unit, the space is designed to be shared with nature - the perfect get away hide away. The site boasts separate private toilet and shower units, pubs & fresh produce within walking distance, local walks & a 30min drive to Norwich or coast. The site itself is completely off grid, entwined within the surrounding nature. Built using local knowledge, materials, skills, artists and technology we are extremely proud of the space we have created. The living area is sited at the far end of the field, around 150meters from the road. (We call it a road, it has grass growing down the middle of it, so it’s more of a path for cars). Just a few steps from the trucks rear door there is a private modern shower unit and a separate, comfortable, well maintained compost toilet. Both facilities boasting sky views (we wont spoil the surprise). Just in-front of the outdoor decking area is a sizeable fire pit, complete with a seating area and removable griddle - a perfect space for al fresco dinning. The accommodation is designed to be a perfect hide away for couples but we do also welcome families attracted to this style of glamping. Only you can decide if this space is suitable for you and your children. Please be aware there are steep steps, open fires and uneven ground on the site. Within the lorry the kitchen area there is a 4-hob cooker grill, kitchen sink and work top. In this rustic setting cooking is a different experience and some of our guests have even proved baking is possible. The repurposed loading ramp decking area then provides the perfect setting for eating under the moonlight sky or taking shade under the boat sail from the sun. The French doors can be pushed wide open to extend the floor space to the loading ramp decking area, with steps leading to the fire pit. When the sun goes in power from the sun’s rays throughout the day is stored in the battery bank and recycled back around the site for the many subtle lighting options, USB charging and pumping water. As the weather turns cooler, the wood burner can transform the lorry from a summer retreat into a cosy romantic seasonal get away. The woodburner gets the truck toasty in no time and, with the views changing with the seasons it's the perfect viewing spot for wildlife. *Please note we do not supply a stove guard, if you have children staying you are responsible for child safety with the fire, you must be confident your child understands the danger of both the fire, steps and uneven groun and will stay safe* Tucked away above the cab is a super cozy super king size bed, once you’re up there it’s hard to want to get down. Underneath there is a small bed tucked away, suitable for a child or small adult. The sofa bench seat can make another cozy sleeping area (you'll need to provide your own sleeping bed if using the sofa bench). If you prefer to have the lorry to yourselves why not bring a tent for the little people to have their own adventure within the safety of the private field. You can even take to the wheel and explore the restored drivers cab. A perfect place to note to wildlife. Butterflies, roe deer, hare, badgers, hedge hog, buzzard, red kite will all often be seen - all just in an afternoon. Please remember we are guest in natures’ spot and respect the wildlife. It is also a lovely space to read, draw or paint; or even just have a quiet drink whilst soaking it all in. * Whilst Get away Hide away has a number of modern luxuries, it is still a wild camping site at heart and should be treated as such. Guest would need to be fully able to get around the site and up the various steps and ladder. Access is through a gated entrance at one end of the field from the road. Full instructions will be supplied upon booking. The site is setup to be fairly easy to operate and whilst we aren’t on top of the site, the farm cottage is around 600 meters away, on hand to help with any requests. We do also however respect your privacy and expect that some guest we might not even meet. Get Away Hide Away is tucked away within the Norfolk countryside in the small Hamlett of Elsing. We are the 5th generation on the farm and we'd love to share our local knowledge. Our welcome guide has helpful maps listing attractions and facilities close to site. We are constantly reminded of how lucky we are to live in such a rural spot with the diversity of the wildlife. In any one day you could see deer tracking, all sorts of bee's and butterfly's. Often many birds of pray such as red kytes buzzards and owls can be seen hunting. The nature within the village of Elsing fortunatly attracts the sort of resident that can live alongside natural and respect how our living here could impact upon it. It is possible to walk for 20 minuets and buy a real fresh pint of milk from a dairy farm, I can reccomend getting at least one of their made-on site ice cream whilst you’re there. Elsing is a quiet and friendly slow-paced village, why not meet some locals at the regular events at the village hall or at the famous mermaid inn pub and restaurant is just a short 10 minuets walk down a footpath, over the field. There are many bike rides taking advantage of the rural road network you can easily explore the river Wensum or the historic railway lines reinstated as footpaths. Equiped with a bike there opens up the scope for some really nice secret local spots. Please see out welcome guide for me infomation. Whist walks and bike rides in the area can be littered with little gems of locally run amenities. If you do decide to venture out in the car you are only 30 minuets away from the coast. Due to where we are geographically placed in Norfolk you are spoilt for choice of beaches of all varieties. Whether you are after a 99 on Cromer pier, a day trip out to Southwold, seal watching at winterton (please always respect the seals they are wild animals) or some of the more secluded spots around the coast all within a short drive. The broads are also within reach for day trips. Norwich is a thriving city with an amazing arts and music culture, we highly recommend spending a day here. We look forward to sharing our local knowledge with you in our welcome book and in conversation if you request it.
