Ancient Stone Cottage near Stratford upon Avon.
1 The Hamlet is an ancient detached stone cottage set in spacious gardens in a small village near the River Avon . Only 7 miles from Stratford upon Avon it's everyone's idea of a perfect English country cottage . A real favourite with friends and family groups since it's in a central location and offers a variety of spaces . A huge cosy lounge diner with woodburner/open fire and with a long table which seats ten. There is also a bright sunny modern room which overlooks a colourful garden. Country walks lead direct from the front gate. A footpath goes in front of the cottage and leads to the small riverside town of Bidford on Avon which has a supermarket, garage , nice little coffee shop , a couple of pubs and a really stylish riverside restaurant..The bridge. Walks across the fields to two superb village pubs are detailed in guests' information folders under the phone in the kitchen. The Kings Arms in Cleeve Prior and the Cottage of Content in Barton are both about a mile away across footpaths Marlcliff is seven miles from both Stratford upon Avon and Evesham. The Cotswolds are about ten miles away. There are lots of National Trust properties close by... Coughton Court, Hidcote Gardens , Croome Park and Charlecote among them. Warwick Castle is about fifteen miles away. The gardens surrounding the cottage are large and private and, particularly in the summer are used joyfully by adults and children alike. Many guests comment on the beauty of the large gardens which are a mass of snowdrops in early spring and a succession of colour throughout the rest of the year. The large lawns provide a wonderful space for children to play and for adults to relax. There is an allotment beyond the lawned garden which is cultivated by Geoff, the owner. The house is large and detached and there are a variety of spaces. Consequently guests don't feel ' on top of each other' and that is important with large mixed age family groups! I live nearby in Evesham and am often around working in the garden and am happy to answer enquiries on my mobile phone. 1 The Hamlet is one of seven cottages at the end of a lane in a small village. There is no vehicular access to the cottage so parking is in the lane and is on a first come first served basis. It is always possible to drive to the front of the cottage, unload and then reverse to find a place to park. You may have to walk a little way from your parking place to the cottage but there is always somewhere to park. It is a short walk to the river and children love to help the boats through at Marlcliff Lock. There is a super children's play area en route to Bidford on Avon. Details of walks from the cottage to local pubs and villages are on display in the kitchen under the phone. There is a bus available at the top of the lane to Evesham and Redditch. There is a good bus service from Bidford on Avon to Stratford on Avon. Trains run from Honeybourne , five miles away , to Oxford London Paddington and Worcester. The bathroom is downstairs with a double bedroom next to it so is suitable for older or less mobile guests. The separate toilet is also downstairs so be aware that there are no toilets upstairs and also that the twin beds are accessed through the single bedroom. Up to two dogs are allowed. There is a charge of £20 per dog payable in cash while you are there. Dogs are only allowed downstairs and should be kept off the furniture and never left alone in the cottage. They should be supervised in the garden . Though surrounded by hedges they are not fully secure as dogs may wriggle under them! During school summer holidays Only bookings of a week or more are accepted.
