Cute Stone-built House with Citrus Garden
This is a traditional stone-built house located in the award winning village of Archanes, just on the foot of mt. Youchtas. The house has been renovated very recently over the summer of 2018 and is surrounded by a wonderful garden with local varieties of citrus trees offering an alternative to those who want to experience the island of Crete, its people, cultural heritage and natural beauty. By entering the property you find yourself in the garden which offers plenty of space for a family to eat lunch and is filled with flowers and fruit bearing trees (mandarines, oranges and lemons) filling it with colors and aromas. The ground floor of the house consists of a large kitchen and dinning area offering everything you need to store, cook and eat your own meals; a bathroom with a shower and a wc; and a large bedroom with a single bed, an armchair and a desk. Upstairs there is a large bedroom with a double bed, a desk and a wardrobe. You are welcome to use everything you need and move things around to your comfort as many guests enjoy eating outside under the shade of the mandarine tree. Make sure you try the fruits! The house is located right at the heart of the village of Archanes: 30 seconds away from a bus stop, free parking spaces and just 1' away on foot you will find a mini market that is open all week including Sundays. The village square is 7' away where you can dine in excellent traditional restaurants (preferred not only by locals but from visitors from all over the world) or enjoy your coffee. There are also local bakeries,a cinema screening movies with free entry from the municipality of Archanes, bars and wine cafes with live music. Archanes is a really lively place with a strong cultural heritage that is easily noticed in the architecture of the traditional houses, the narrow village streets and the lifestyle that it offers. Over the summer months it is home for many events from music festivals, to international movie screenings and traditional local celebrations which make it a fantastic place to visit :-) As a family we all enjoy trekking, sailing and discovering new places on the island so we are very open to giving tips and suggestions on where to go and what to visit. Only in surrounding area there are many options for nature lovers to choose from: from climbing the mt. Youchtas (a sacred mountain for the minoan civilisation that offers a magnificent view of the island and the sunset if you pick the time wisely!) to shorter routes in the local countryside taking you through archaeological sites like Fourni, gorges and other villages in the area. - 30 seconds from a bus stop! - Free parking Knossos - A widely known archaeological site of Crete is just 12' by car from the house. Heraklion city center is 15' by car or 30' by bus . In 15' you can reach the sea and discover many of the beaches on the north side of Crete and 1+ hour you can drive to the south side of Crete and discover those places that are harder to reach, further away from touristic centers that will reward you the most. We do offer a set of prints with tips and directions for those who are interested! Definitely make sure you ask - its always a pleasure to show people the little treasures of Crete.
