More than enough space and comfy beds for 10 people, but also intimately and very nice even for 2. Perfect base for trips and excursions throughout the Lillehammer region and to experience genuine Norwegian tradition. You can also find information on (Website hidden by Airbnb) Right outside Lillehammer you find the place "Slåtten", a great place with 5 log houses from the 1800s. The property lies idyllic and very quiet in Roterud village and is a perfect base for excursions to Sjusjoen (15 min), Hafjell (25 min), Kvitfjell, Hunderfossen, Skeikampen and great skiing / hiking in the area. With over 8 acres of land and surrounded by open spaces, this is a secluded and peaceful place. Meanwhile, just 8 minutes drive to the center of Lillehammer. Short distance to grocery and gas station. The property has for decades belonged to the famous Norwegian explorers and writers Helge Ingstad and his wife Anne Stine. You will find in addition to the main house, his great old "writing house", Anne Stine's weaving house, stables and sheds. Helge, Anne Stine and their team could after many years of work in Canada eventually confirm saga history of the Vikings going to America 500 years before Christopher Columbus. Time Magazine rated this as one of the most important discoveries in the 1900s. The main house is 105 sqm and is newly renovated to today's standard. Bathroom with heated floors, shower, toilet and washing machine. Dining room, living room, fully equipped kitchen with coffee machine and dishwasher in addition to bedroom and bathroom. Open fireplace and smaller stoves and of course electrical heating. The house has two bedrooms with room for 4 people. One double bed and two singles (if desirable space for a cot as well). The living room has sofa bed for two which can be used if needed. In the old "Writing house" on 47 sqm (with living room and two bedrooms) you will find old books, authentic charm and lots of board games for the whole family. The house has electricity and a new bathroom with shower, toilet and sink. In the "weaving house" (old log house as well) there are two bunk beds in the sleeping room (4 beds) and a very nice living room with a stove. We are not present at the property during your stay but always available for any question or problem you might have. Great hiking in neighboring areas in both summer and winter. Close to all offers in Lillehammer region. Maps of trails for hiking and skiing in the area are available for guests staying at Slatten. The nightlife in Lillehammer is good - at least in weekends and holidays. You will find good restaurants and cafe's in the main street for lunch or the restaurant "Bryggerikjelleren", "Fryd" or "Hvelvet" for dinner. It's our favourite. On your way to town you will find the amazing "Maihaugen", an area with collection of old traditional houses. It's worth a visit. For shopping you go to Storgata - the main street in Lillehammer. If you want to go to an indoor shopping mall you will have to find your way to "Strandtorget" down by the lake. Bus connection to Lillehammer city and Sjusjøen 3-4 times a day. Easy access with taxi from city centre cost about NOK 250,-.
