Town centre location overlooking the cricket field, this warm and friendly 2nd floor apartment with access through the house, offers quiet, private accommodation on the top floor. It comprises double bedroom, en suite bathroom - and your own spacious, south facing sitting room as a bonus. We can arrange free on-street parking - a big plus for town centre visitors. Perfect for the single business visitor, theatre professional, or those simply touring, the self-contained apartment on the 2nd floor comprises a colourful, luxurious suite at the top of Stephen & Stephanie's home, with access via the house. Lots of sunshine and bright light, open south facing views overlooking the cricket field, and Velux windows to the bedroom & well appointed bathroom. Our emphasis is on providing a bespoke experience for our guests. Our listing is for single visitors, but you have a comfortable double bed, complete with high quality bedding, duvet and electric blanket. You will find fresh, high quality towels, hair dryer, shower gel, shampoo plus a few extras in your ensuite shower room. No TV, but bring your tablet or laptop, as we have fast Wi-Fi throughout the house. Also provided in the apartment are radio/CD player, iPod/iPhone speakers with 3.5mm connection jack, and a bedside radio/iPod/iPhone 30 pin charging point. In your bright and spacious sitting room, the windowbay breakfast bar comprises tea/coffee making, microwave, toaster and small fridge. For breakfast, its 'help yourself', with a selection of teas, fresh coffee cafetiere, Cadbury's hot chocolate, Dorset cereals, milk, Tropicana orange, fresh fruit, wholemeal bread for toast, crumpets, honey, jam, marmalade. Additionally, guests will find a treat or two! If you have any diet preferences, simply let Stephanie know in advance as these can be accommodated. Access to the loft apartment is through our main house, stairs to the 1st floor, with a further enclosed staircase leading to the apartment on the 2nd floor. Guests with mobility issues should check first as to suitability. Note, the house is fully carpeted and heated throughout, so we ask guests to leave their outdoor shoes in the entrance way rack. Most guests find this both simple and convenient. Visitors have total ease of digital keypad entry, so remain independent to come and go at any time - early morning or after a late night travelling or attending events. We are happy for guests to leave luggage here on departure day, and as ‘hobby hosts’ we rarely have a problem concerning departure time. Early arrivals and late departures are almost always accommodated. Stephen and Stephanie are professional people who host as a hobby in their home, not as a hotel, commercial let or business. We do like meeting and chatting to guests so enjoy this interaction, Stephanie provides daily support, and of course you will be seeing us as you go to and from the upstairs apartment. We are always on hand to assist guests and make recommendations about local services, restaurants, bars, events and places to visit. In the meantime, check out our attractions map below. The apartment is 600 metres from the train station (that's 7 mins walk) - right in the heart of Darlington, and the closest house to: • Darlington Town Hall and DofE Education offices - 320 metres away (visible from the house), . Vue cinema and leisure centre - 100 metres; • Victorian indoor market - 450 metres; • Market square - 400 metres; • Dolphin Sports Complex and swimming pool - 400 metres; • Edwardian Hippodrome Theatre - 700 metres (9 min walk): many notable actors, directors and performers choose to stay with us. Walk for 100 metres - and you are right in the town centre, with its 18th century rows, wynds and alleys. ' Sainsbury/Argos Superstore is a 4 minute walk, and the Cornmill Shopping centre is a 6 minute walk. The Feethams Leisure Centre, with its multi screen Vue Cinema, Prezzo, Bella Italia, Nandos, and free cash point is just 2 minutes walk. At the same time, South Terrace is one of Darlington's hidden secrets - a quiet backwater with an open view from the apartment across the cricket field to the river Skerne, and the 26 hectare Victorian 'South Park' beyond. Darlington’s inter-city train station (600 metres from the house) is almost halfway between Edinburgh (2 hours) and London (2.5 hours) with direct travel to all major cities. Arriva buses leave from the town centre, 5 minutes walk from the house, with services to outlying towns and villages. Darlington is the gateway to: * Yorkshire Dales National Park, * North Yorkshire Moors National Park * Wild Weardale (North Pennines Area of Outstanding Beauty). Durham (23 miles) 12 minute by train York (50 miles) 25 minutes by train Stockton (12 miles) 20 minutes by car or train Teesside (17 miles) 25 minutes by car or train. Durham & Tees Valley Airport is 8 miles away (14 minutes by car), with three onward daily flights to Amsterdam & Aberdeen, and daily flights to Stornoway, Wick St John O'Groats, Stavanger and Bergen Norway. The town, with its Saturday, Monday and monthly Sunday markets is a hub for visits to the market towns of Richmond (13 miles), Northallerton (16 miles), Barnard Castle (17 miles), Durham (23 miles), Thirsk (25 miles), Whitby (51 miles), and Scarborough (69 miles). Darlington Station Taxis operate within 400 metres of the house. Free on-street car parking for visitors. Business visitors and legal professionals - * walking distance to all of Darlington's Civic Offices, Courts & municipal buildings; * access to Canon i-sensys laser printer/copier; * local office rental space / meeting rooms can be arranged for your visit. Sports professionals - four minutes walk to Dolphin Sports Centre & access to adjacent Cricket Club bar for big-screen sports events. Theatre professionals - walking distance to the Hippodrome and Majestic theatres. Leisure visitors: although barely visible from the house, we are just two minutes walk from the new Feethams Centre, with a plethora of cafés, restaurants, free cash point and the Vue multi-screen cinema. Dancers - Stephen and Stephanie dance Argentine tango. So for dancers, there is the added facility of a fully equipped, thee-way mirrored 1st floor dance studio with sound system, which you are welcome to use.
