Sunnyside Lodge is the perfect place for getting away from it all, but with an abundance of activities on your doorstep! Situated in a quiet nook just outside the ancient market town of Lanark (a Royal Burgh since 1140) you benefit from the lovely restaurants and shops on Lanark High Street and the UNESCO World Heritage site of New Lanark just 2 miles away. For a city experience Edinburgh and Glasgow are less than an hour away with excellent transport links. Who says you can't have it all?! Sunnyside Lodge dates back to at least 1825 and is a charming stone bungalow with a private cottage garden. The luxury kitchen leads out to a patio area, complete with gas BBQ and outdoor sofas. Perfect for relaxing with friends and a glass of wine on warm summer evenings! Sunnyside Lodge has just been through a full renovation and we set out to create a beautiful home from home, full of Highland charm. This cottage has so much character, from its ramparts to the log burner keeping guests cosy on winter days and nights. We have put a lot of ourselves into the styling too - the two bedrooms are decorated with our family tartans, Macintosh and Buchanan. The welcoming shower room is fresh and clean with wood finishes and blue and white decor - finished with a fantastic power shower. The kitchen has an American style fridge freezer, coffee machine, wine fridge, AEG appliances and granite worktops. It's extremely well equipped - we believe that a holiday home should be at least as comfortable and as well equipped as our guests' own homes. You will enjoy the welcome basket with local goodies including Sunnyside homemade jams made with our own fruit! Snuggle in front of the log burner with a movie if you feel like a quiet evening in. There are televisions in each bedroom and Sky Q and free wifi means you can be as connected as you wish...or not! Your neighbours are spring lambs in the adjoining fields, and wildlife abounds - hares, woodpeckers, owls and deer wander though the estate. Take a walk through the walled rose garden at Sunnyside House or a ramble through the woods. The river Clyde and River Mouse border the estate and fishing is available. For a city experience Edinburgh and Glasgow are less than an hour away with excellent transport links. Who says you can't have it all?! We live in Sunnyside House, the main house on the estate and are always on hand to help with any questions you may have, or offer recommendations for things to do or places to see. Our hope is that you enjoy the magic of this special place too! Lanark is an ancient Royal Burgh, created by King David I in 1140, and is a 5 minute drive away. It benefits from excellent restaurants (La Vigna, Prego, Route 36...) tearooms (Wallace Tearoom, Le Petit Cafe) and a great selection of shops. For golfers, the excellent James Braid designed Lanark golf course, is the 25th oldest in the world and has hosted many prestigious events, including Qualifying for the Open Golf Championship. New Lanark, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is only 5 minutes away, and continues the trend of history at every turn, which is so evident in Lanark. The town is renowned for its connection with Scottish hero, William Wallace. He continues to watch over Lanark even today - his statue takes pride of place at the end of the High Street! There are excellent bus links into Lanark, Edinburgh and Glasgow and from Lanark, regular train links. We can help arrange airport transfers for visitors from further afield. Once you're here, enjoy the excellent walks around the local area....see the Falls of Clyde, Cartland Crags or for those who like hillwalking, Tinto hill is a short drive away and visible from the driveway!
