At 5,600'+ elevation, we have plenty of snow! A quick 5 minute drive up Grizzly Rd from hwy 70 makes it easy to access Portola and everything else Plumas County has to offer. High speed fiber optic internet. No cleaning fee! DIY breakfast included! Pet friendly! Cull Castle is a truly magical location that manages to both be rural and unplugged, without actually being that far from every modern amenity! We are less than 5 miles off hwy 70, 10 mins from town of Portola. Hosts live in the main house above and lovingly remodeled the 600+ sq ft walk-in basement in spring 2021 to provide a comfortable, clean space, whether guests would like to unwind and relax in the pines and enjoy the property and adjacent Plumas National Forest, or use it as a jumping point for the mountain (pun unintended) of other activities in Plumas County. We recommend right in front of the stairs to make unpacking easier. Unless instructed otherwise, do not park on the driveway/parking pad. Hosts live above and are accessible 24/7. Lynda and Cris are avid travelers and used Airbnb extensively as guests for years before having the opportunity to become hosts ourselves, so we KNOW what makes a good vs great stay! We are happy to be as present or invisible as our guest prefers - we know different trips have different vibes. Crocker Mountain Estates was established around the same time as Lake Davis in the late 1960's... by host Lynda's grandparents! It is by lucky timing that we've returned to this hidden gem after 60 years of no formal connection. This quaint subdivision is set onto the side of the mountain, so every lot has a stunning view all around and is the perfect ratio of neighbors to forest. The neighborhood is technically within the Plumas National Forest and across the street from CA state game refuge, so many neighbors are wildlife. Only 1.5 miles from Lake Davis dam and less than 10 minutes to Portola/hwy 70. As this is a rural area, guests should always plan on their own transportation. Weather depending, 4x4 not strictly necessary, as all roads to the house are plowed. There are no public options, including Uber/Lyft. Hosts are dedicated to keeping intoxicated drivers off the road, and are happy to arrange transportation to and from events for an additional cost. Guests must be comfortable navigating up and down outdoor deck stairs in icy/snowy weather - apartment is below street level and small sections of walkway are not covered. We recommend checking CalTrans QuickMap (online or app) for current road conditions and travel recommendations. Please be aware we cannot make any exceptions to the refund policy for any weather-related events. As such, we highly recommend purchasing travel insurance if this is a concern. Thanks!
