Two bedrooms, each with own bathroom, open out onto the veranda looking across the valley towards the magnificent Magaliesberg mountain range, oldest range in the southern hemisphere. We do not have TV or radio in the cottage but we have our very own “country chorus” who will keep you entertained or lulled with a variety of sounds throughout your stay. You have use of the entire two bedroom cottage and its own garden area throughout your stay with us. There is a gate entrance near to the cottage which is private for your use. Within the Magalies Mountain area there are restaurants a short drive away, country walks for the energetic, bird watching, Hartbeespoort Dam approx 25 km away which has craft markets and restaurants plus elephant and monkey sanctuary nearby. On the farm we have hens who supply us with our eggs, bees who make honey and we grow our own seasonal vegetables. We sell farm produce like relishes, sun-dried tomatoes, pickles, jams and marmalades. Sue is a qualified tourist guide for Gauteng and North West Provinces and will be able to assist you with any exploring ideas for the area. Hekpoort is an agricultural region with some of the most fertile soils in the country. Farming activities range from vegetables, pecan nuts, fruit, piggeries, beef and chicken farming on a large scale. The region nestles in a valley between the magnificent Magaliesberg and the Witwatersberg mountain ranges. The Magaliesberg Mountain region has recently been accorded Biosphere status, thus ensuring that the fragile ecosystems within it will continue to be looked after appropriately from a conservation perspective. Guests travelling to our cottage in Hekpoort, would need their own transport to get here and to explore the region. Our gang of hens, Rupert & Redford the roosters, are all free roaming around the farm area and therefore we cannot offer a pet friendly option. You will probably receive visits by our poultry collection - they'll pop by to greet you! We have a minimum 2 night stay-over policy and on long weekends a minimum 3 night stay over.
