Appletree Cottage offers an entire open plan contemporary living space and outdoor patio area for 4 guests in the heart of the beautiful and vibrant village of Thornhill, Dumfriesshire, Scotland. Ideally located within a minutes walk of country pubs, cafes, gift shops and clothes boutiques. Perfectly situated only 10 minutes walk from stunning river and woodland walks and 5 minute drive to historical Drumlanrig Castle to enjoy walking, fishing, cycling/ mountain biking and bird watching. This is a perfect space to get away from it all and enjoy a warm and comfortable yet light and open living space. An ideal base to explore the stunningly beautiful surrounding area. Guests will enjoy access to all parts of Appletree Cottage. Guests will have the opportunity to interact as needed as we are living beside the property so will be on hand for any questions or assistance, but we will not bother you at all otherwise. Thornhill offers everything you could ask for of a small village, and more! - bakers, butchers, chocolatier, clothing boutiques, gift shops, cafes and cosy country pubs, often hosting live music. The wider area offers fine dining options, notably Trigony House and the Auldgirth Inn. The vibrant village is nestled within the beautiful Nithsdale valley between the Lowther Hills and the Carsphairn and Scaur range. Only a short drive or cycle away is Drumlanrig Castle, a 17th century turreted mansion, where you can enjoy learning about the history of the Estate and marvel at the stunning landscape. The Drumlanrig Estate is also well known for mountain biking tracks - you will be able to hire bikes from Rik's Bike Shed and receive an excellent service there too. The nearby Forest of Ae is one of the renowned 7Stanes mountain biking centres and also offers scenic walking trails. Bike enthusiasts may enjoy a pilgrimage to the nearby village of Keir Mill where the pedal bicycle was invented in 1840! Wildlife in the immediate area includes red squirrels, hares, red kites, buzzards and sand martins to name but a few. There is a regular bus service to and from the region’s main town of Dumfries, which also takes you to nearby Sanquhar and beyond. Edinburgh and Glasgow are one to two hours drive away meaning you can enjoy day trips to world class cities. We are dog friendly so long as your dog is friendly! You may bring along one well behaved dog, but please note they will not be allowed upon any furniture and all dog mess must be cleared from the outdoor area and disposed of.
