Grade II listed house with river and castle views
Discounts available for NHS staff. Please message for details. A truly amazing location! This wonderful house sleeps six comfortably and offers a unique view of the Tees and Barnard Castle's castle. Perfect for walking, bird watching, photography and touring the wonderful North East. Barnard Castle is a lovely town to wander around and the centre is only a 5 minute walk away. Families with children are asked to message in advance due to safety re. stairs and windows. The house is Grade II Listed but with modern refurbishment inside. The space is furnished in a style which should make you feel happy and relaxed. The entrance is on the ground floor which leads to a cloakroom (extremely tiny but very convenient!) and the kitchen/dining area. This area is by far the most beautiful of this unique house with a modern kitchen, magnificent dining table and views from the big sash windows on two sides of the River Tees and the castle. Downstairs is reached by stairs which are uneven in depth (hence the concern about young children in the house) and one of the quirky features of having a listed building! The stairs lead to a very comfortable lounge with plenty of sitting space and a wall mounted television. There is terrestrial TV and a licence for the property. On the first floor are three light and airy bedrooms and a large bathroom with separate shower. Bedroom 1 has a king size bed and view down river, bedroom 2 has a double bed and view over the river and of the castle and bedroom 3 is a large twin room. Beside the house are steps to the riverside (only accessible when the river is low!) and an opportunity to see the varied wildlife (particularly birds) close up. There are beautiful riverside walks both upstream and downstream - go explore! The whole of the house is accessible. I am in Barnard Castle from time to time and more than happy to answer any questions. My daughter and I manage the letting of the house and so I will provide a mobile phone number to guests should they need to get in touch during their stay. Barnard Castle is a market town in Teesdale. Within the town are a selection of independent and high street shops together with a Morrisons supermarket. A larger selection of shops can be found in Bishop Auckland and Darlington. The town is full of interesting places to visit: the castle, Bowes Museum (built in the style of a French chateau opened in 1892) and for music and theatre lovers there is The Witham. Within easy reach of local wedding venues. You are close to High Force and Low Force, fantastic walks, Raby Castle and much, much more. I am more than happy to provide ideas and tips so you can make the most of your stay! Buses from the high street in "Barney". Nearest mainline train station at Darlington (No 75 bus). Parking is on the street a very short walk from the front door.
