Cottage in the heart of historic Norfolk
Cornerstone cottage is situated in the heart of the idyllic and historic village of Castle Acre. It has a homely and cosy interior, with comfortable beds, a family bathroom, downstairs cloakroom, kitchen, dining room, living room with log burner, private courtyard, utility area, garage, travel cot and highchair. The Cottage is a stones throw from the historic Bailey Gate that you still drive under to enter the heart of the village. You can see the gate and the central village green from the front aspect of the property. A view unique to Cornerstone Cottage! You will have your own parking space for one car in a private courtyard, a small patio outdoor space; use of the log burner in the colder seasons along with access to the garage that houses extra logs, beach amenities and bikes for local cycling. Norfolk and Suffolk are home to several RAF bases. Every now and then jets fly low over the village, its always fascinating to see them fly by. And otherwise the cottage and village are truly peaceful and quiet and a fabulous place to retreat to and use as a base to explore the wonderful county of Norfolk. You will have full access to the whole property and its amenities during your stay. You will have the entire property to yourself throughout your stay. We are available by phone if there are any queries during your stay. Across the road from our front door is the wonderful Wittles cafe. They serve hot lunches, teas, coffees and delicious cakes. They also make sure they cater for vegetarians and vegans in a lot of their baking. The Ostrich Pub is just beyond the cafe and serves lunch and dinner and has a great selection of beers. In the summer it's a great place to head for a pint and relax in the pub garden. The historic Priory is just beyond the village church and is run by English Heritage. You can also take a stroll around the boundaries of the priory as there are footpaths that go around its entirety. The river Nar runs at the bottom of the village, and you can take some beautiful walks to West Acre and South Acre through gorgeous woodlands alongside the rivers edge. The historic castle is situated behind our cottage and you can get to it from various access points. It is free to walk around, and has some fascinating history. There is a Spa shop around the corner that sells all essentials you'll need for your stay. And next door to the Spa is Castle Acre fish and chips! A bus service can take you into Kings Lynn or Fakenham most days from the bus stop adjacent to the Spa shop in the village. If you are bringing more than one car, then there is usually parking available on the green for your second car.
