Artists and Travelers B&B (Yellow Room)
Kerkenstein is a historic mayor's house, built in 1841 in the town of Herwijnen, the Netherlands. It is available to whoever wants to get away from big cities, wants clean air, likes biking long and flat roads or making music, writing poetry .... The yellow room is located on the first floor on the south side of the house. It has a small basin. If you prefer a different room (green or red) please also look at our other listings. On this floor there is one toilet available for guests, accessible via the main hallway across the door from the yellow room. We hope that guests feel at home throughout the entire house by enjoying the large living rooms / kitchen and back yard. The music room has a grand piano and a drum kit. You have access to the kitchen, large living room, music room, hallway, yard, bedroom, bathroom, restrooms and you may park vehicles in our private parking in the front of the house. We are happy to advise you on nice biking routes or hiking trails around the house. We love cooking and you are welcome to stay for dinner at our big kitchen table. Hidden behind two old chestnut trees we welcome you in our State monument Kerkenstein. This used to be the town’s mayor home in de heart of the village Herwijnen. Along the river ‘Waal’ this has now been our ‘family home’ for 25 years. Stork nests, orchards and grazing cows quickly give our guests the feeling to be away from the busy city. Though many old and beautiful cities are close by. Den Bosch (30 min. by car), Utrecht (30), Breda (30), Roterdam (40), and Amsterdam (55). In the direct vicinity some great sights are easy to travel to by bike starting from the house: Fort Asperen, Fort Vuren, Castle of Loevestein, the Glass-museum in Leerdam. Going for a run in the polder, along the lengthy embankments can be rewarded by our sauna or steam shower. With a cup of fresh coffee in the kitchen garden, you can read the newspaper, play piano in the music room or mow our lawn if you feel like it. Behind the house in the back yard is a large embankment. When you stand there you can see the floodplains and beyond it the river Waal. So, make beautiful hikes, paddle, dream or lounge. Herwijnen is easiest accessible by car or bike, though there is a bus stop. You may take a bus from nearby cities Geldermalsen (to the east) or Gorinchem (to the west). The nearest train station is Leerdam or Geldermalsen or Gorinchem. This is a very quiet town. The only disturbance you may find is the church bell that tells you the hours, and a low and quiet hum of boats passing by; though it is also relaxing.
