Romantic, artist’s flat, superb central location.
Romantic, bow-fronted, ground floor Regency property with lots of character. Well-appointed but down to earth. Directly opposite the famous King Alfred's statue in the centre of town: 1 minute walk to the river, 1 minute to city centre shops, 3 mins to Winchester Cathedral, 15 mins to train station. Kitchen opens into small pretty garden, then onto quiet cul-de sac for parking (permit provided- parking in the cul-de-sac not guaranteed but there are plenty of streets within the permit zones). I am an artist, musician and collector of natural history, so there are various artefacts dotted around (including taxidermy), a cosy bohemian feel and plenty of character. It is an incredibly romantic space, so perfect for couples on a special trip. There is a roll-top slipper bath. The flat has own front and back door (neither shared), keys are provided for both. My upstairs neighbour is very considerate, friendly and has her own entrance via shared path in the garden. (She has a little very friendly dog.) There is no television but there is wifi and a modern projector, with pull-down screen (you would need a laptop or device that has HDMI connection). There is a roll-top bath pond with fish in the garden. Though the flat will be thoroughly cleaned for your stay, it's an old building with vintage furniture, so will never look as pristine as a modern build. I am available for any issues or advice during your stay. I live and work in Winchester, so will be able to help or assist at short notice but will also be happy to leave you to enjoy your stay undisturbed. If you would like any advice on things to do and recommendations for bars and restaurants I am very happy to help. I can meet you at the property, or there's a key safe. Winchester has an abundance of wonderful places to explore, visit, eat and drink; all within a very short walk. My favourite pub is The Black Boy, which is a gorgeous 10 min walk along the River Itchen, yards from the warren of streets around Winchester College. More than anything though, I love how one can walk for 15 mins in any direction and be in completely open countryside. Everything is within a short walk. Winchester is spoilt for beautiful countryside walks in every direction, there are many very pretty walking routes, including the South Downs Way and the Clarendon Way, both of which start a stone's throw from the property. It is also relatively close (30 min drive) to the New Forest with breathtaking views and friendly wild roaming horses. All public transport is within easy walking distance, with two direct trains to & from London Waterloo every hour. Winchester - Waterloo takes just under an hour. For trips to the Isle of Wight, Southampton is 17 mins away by train, with simple ferry connections to Cowes and Ryde. Just to note: previously my two cats lived there too, but they are now living with me full time… they were a big hit with guests and so feature in some reviews, but they are no longer at the property..
