On the first floor are two light and airy en-suite double bedrooms, one has bunk beds. The large farmhouse kitchen diner is decorated in a traditional style and has a large fireplace. It is well equipped with all the modern conveniences including range gas/electric cooker, fridge freezer and sufficient crockery for 6. A washing machine and dishwasher are in the adjoining utility room. There is a coffee maker and a Tassimo pod coffee maker in the kitchen. The comfortable lounge has plenty of seating and a large fireplace with wood burner as a focal point. There is a TV with French and UK channels and a DVD player. There is a staircase to access the bedrooms. A travel cot (please provide your own bedding) and highchair as well as stair gates are available for use. A large garage is available to store cycles or motorcycles. Parking for vehicles is available on site. A BBQ and chimnea are available for use The owners will be available to offer any help throughout your stay. The house is situated in the very small and quiet hamlet of Le Pont de Caen next to the river Varenne. The Varenne is renowned for it's fly fishing for trout. Through the hamlet runs the former railway line converted to a cycle-way and footpath called the Voie Verte. This cycle-way is part of the route between Paris and Mont St Michelle. The historic town of Domfront is 15mins walk away where there are several cafes, restaurants, bars and two supermarkets. There are also boulangeries, banks and a pharmacy. There are numerous walking and cycle routes in the area. Route maps are available from the tourist office. The roads and lanes are very quiet making them ideal for walking, cycling and motorcycling. Ideally located for exploring the region - including the D-Day Beaches, Mont St Michel, Avranches, Domfront, Villedieu-les-Poeles, Granville, Bayeux Tapestry, D-Day Museums and the northern Loire. Nearby in Brittany - St Malo with its ramparts, Dinan, Dinard and Fougeres. Nature lovers will enjoy the huge range of birds and wildlife to be seen in the garden and surrounding area, including woodpeckers, red kites, red squirrel and occasionally an owl, as well as the more usual varieties. Heating during the colder months: Please note that this gite is a 250 year old rural property. Although there is central heating, it cannot and will not be heated to the levels you may expect in a modern house or apartment. The wood burner in the lounge will need to be used to boost the heating when you relax in the evenings. We make no charge for heating on the understanding that you accept the above and use the wood burner when you need to. Firewood is also supplied free of charge.
