The shepherd's hut at Les Aulnaies

A newly built, traditional English Shepherds hut set in the rolling Normandy countryside. Your own private space with separate entrance and secure off road parking. The rural location offers breathtaking panoramic views of the Normandy countryside. Price includes breakfast. Coffee and tea making facilities are provided but due to limited space within the hut, there are no cooking facilities. Sorry no pets ,even small dogs! Guests have their own private terrace with table and chairs. Heating of hot water for the shower is provided by a 40 litre storage heater which is adequate for at least 2 showers. The hut has it’s own wifi but this is “La France profond”, so adequate to stream tv etc on your phone/ tablet . We are set in 5 acres of grassland grazed by horses. There is plenty of parking but please park with consideration for other vehicle access. There is a covered well in the garden and a further 2 ponds on the land as well as stacks of logs, for this reason, young children need to be supervised at all times and playing near or climbing on the log piles is forbidden for reasons of safety. We are always available to answer questions regarding your stay or local facilities. You have your own key and private access to the hut. Please return the key at the end of your stay. Les Aulnaies is less than 4km from the village of Echauffour with it’s ancient church, bakery, bar/ restaurant and surrounding forest, and is a few miles from Gacé town with shops, bistros and other food outlets. The larger towns of L’Aigle and Argentan with a wide range of shopping facilities are approximately 18 and 25 minutes drive. For exploring, there are chateau, medieval villages, cathedrals, museums, country parks, and the National horse stud, all within 30 minutes drive. The area lends itself to long walks and cycle/ horse rides down quiet country lanes in breathtaking countryside. Saint-Evroult-Notre-Dame-du-bois with it’s historic abbey ruins and lake with leisure facilities including boat hire, is 12km distant. Canoeing and rock climbing in the Suisse Normande is approximately 1 hours drive, and the racing circuit at Le Mans, the historic fishing harbour of Honfleur, and the D-day beaches can all be reached within 90 minutes Les Aulnaies is 12 km from junction 16 (Gacé) of the A28 autoroute with its direct access to the Northern ports of Calais, Dieppe etc and Bordeaux and the South West. Travelling to Les Aulnaies requires use of a car, although it would be an ideal stop over as part of a cycling holiday. The nearest rail station, Sainte-Gauburge-Sainte-Colombe is 8 km with trains to the coast and Paris, but L’Aigle station has a more frequent service to Paris and is approx 25 km distant. The accommodation is intended for short stays and due to its small size (a total of around 12 sq metres) there are no cooking or food storage facilities. There is a kettle with coffee and tea.
