Luxury apartment Wharfedale Yorkshire Dales
Owls Rest is situated at White House Farm, Askwith, a rural village c.4 miles from the Spa town of Ilkley & market town of Otley. It's an ideal base to explore the scenic Yorkshire Dales, quaint villages and historic towns. Owls Rest is a self contained garage apartment adjacent to our small family run kennel & cattery. Open plan with beautiful decor. Lots to do including walking, cycling, sightseeing, shopping or relaxing (occasional woof or meow!) Parking for 1 car only. Warm welcome awaits. Owls Rest has an open plan kitchen lounge, cosy & comfortable with beautiful decor. A well equipped kitchen with oven, microwave, fridge and dishwasher. Steps lead down to a separate bedroom and shower room. The small patio to the front is ideal for a glass of wine whilst watching the sun go down, planning tomorrow's activities or just relaxing & unwinding. Your hosts just love listening to the sounds of the country in this pocket of tranquility. Guests have full & exclusive use of the apartment during their stay. The internal door to the garage part is for the owners use only. Occasionally during your stay access to the garage by the hosts, via the outside garage roller door may be required, however this will be kept to a minimum. Safe off road parking on the owners land right outside the accommodation. With no street lighting head torches are a useful thing to pack if walking back from the village pub! The owners live on site in the old farmhouse next to the apartment. Any queries we're happy to help so please don't hesitate to ask. Please bear in mind at certain times of the day we may be unavailable as the operations of our kennel/cattery & daily lives also coexist :-) I know we're bias, however we hope you'll come to agree that Wharfedale is a really beautiful part of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Situated in a valley with the meandering river Wharfe down. Up & down Wharfedale there are beautiful places to visit. The source of the Wharfe is at Beckermonds in Langstrothdale, it then flows downstream through Kettlewell, Grassington, Bolton Abbey, Addingham, Ilkley, Burley-in-Wharfedale, Otley, Wetherby and Tadcaster, entering the River Ouse near Cawood just south of York. On the map, Owls Rest is north of Burley-in-Wharfedale, across the river on the 'back' road between the spa town of Ilkley, with its famous Moor (recall the song?) & market town of Otley, where you can walk in Chevin Park overlooking the valley or observing the planes come in to land at Leeds/Bradford airport. There are lots of gentle walks by the river or for retail therapy. The more energetic will definitely bring walking boots or cycles to discover hills & views that will invigorate & rejuvenate their souls :-) Discovery day trips to other interesting places like Skipton, Pateley Bridge, Harrogate, York, Bingley Five Rise Locks, Malham Cove, Aysgarth Falls, Fountains Abbey, How Stean Gorge or even the Yorkshire coastal towns of Whitby or Scarbororugh are just a few of the many superb things to enjoy on your first visit. If walking to the Askwith Arms on an evening perhaps bring a head torch for the walk back after dark! Don't jump if there's an unsuspecting mooing as you walk past! ;-) See you soon. best regards, Vernon & Helen, both born in Ilkley & bred in Wharfedale x Askwith is not on any public transport routes. Owls Rest is approx 3 miles from bus stops in either Ilkley or Otley. The closest train station is at Ben Rhydding on this side of Ilkley. Walkers are just 4 miles from the Old Bridge, the official start of the Dales Way, an 80-mile long-distance footpath in Northern England, from Ilkley, West Yorkshire, to Bowness-on-Windermere, Cumbria. Being approximately 7 miles from Leeds Bradford Airport, just a short taxi journey away, Owls Rest is an ideal touch down point for a brief countryside hide away. With limited street lighting in the village, should you be visiting the Askwith Arms, down the hill approx half mile away without your car & the sun goes down, then having a head torch might be useful for coming back up the hill instead of relying on the light of the moon :-) Please note the apartment is located adjacent to our small cattery & kennel. Between 9-10 am and 3-4p m we are open for customers to drop off or collect their pets, however occasionally these can vary as circumstances dictate this being the nature of the business.
