The Doghouse is a self-contained bungalow with a double bedroom, open plan kitchen-sitting room and a shower room. It is situated next to the host's home, in a quiet, secluded location in the countryside with Oxford and London within easy reach. The host has two noisy dogs and a cat; The Doghouse does not but it's very close to our house (which makes it easy to come get us if you need to)! Please do read the cancellation policy in full, thank you! We are located at the end of a bridleway which is an unmade road - watch out for impressive potholes (there are a couple of wide, deep ones at the top of the drive) - by the side of a working wood; great for wildlife lovers. There are some lovely country walks around us and we welcome well-behaved dogs, two maximum. Please keep to 10mph max. on the bridle path, thank you, and look out for horse riders, dog walkers, badgers, deer, foxes, rabbits, hares, hedgehogs etc! If we are not at home when you arrive, we will leave the door open and the key on the dining table. Parking is on the property; please park directly in front of the railing opposite the patio doors. We will welcome you and leave you to it, unless you need us! You will see us coming and going as we go to work, take the dogs for a walk etc. It is very quiet and so are we (although we can't answer for the local farmers doing their stuff in the next door fields), and our dogs do fancy themselves as guard dogs, so do quite a lot of barking! If you bring a dog, or two, please also bring rugs/blankets if they are used to being on the sofa! Please do not allow them on the bed, thank you. Please, also, don't leave them home alone! Cats are also welcome provided you can guarantee they won't scratch the furniture. No doubt, being in a strange place, you will use a litter tray. Our loos empty into septic tanks so whilst you can flush poo down the loo, you can't flush litter. Please bring bio-degradeable (paper or wood) litter with you and when it gets stinky, fling it out into the hedgerow where the elements will take care of it (that's what we do! We use Breeder Celect cat litter from Pets at Home) Finally, if your cat is of a nervous disposition, please do consider how he/she might react to barking! The Doghouse can be found at Keepers Cottage at the end of The Shaw, a bridleway right on the boundary between Leckhampstead, Buckingham and Wicken, Sth Northants. Wicken is a very pretty village with many old, thatched cottages and a Norman church. It has a village pub which serves food and the locals are very friendly! You will need a car as there is not a lot in the way of public transport! However, Milton Keynes Central runs regular trains to London. There is a small log burner and we supply the wood. The cottage has underfloor heating, which can be timed to suit your needs, except in the bedroom which has an oil radiator with an electric timer plug that you can also set to suit your needs. The water is timed to come on once a day early in the morning; it is a big tank and this is usually enough to meet the needs of our guests. The loo empties into a septic tank so feminine hygiene products cannot be flushed. We have two dogs and an unimpressed cat! You might not wish to stay during the shooting season as we do run a working wood and this may not be your cup of tea! We also ask that you do not walk through the woods without permission. We do make every effort to remove our insect visitors before you arrive but, we are very rural, and spiders, house beetles and wood lice do favour our property; if you are nervous of insects, please be warned! WiFi and electricity is, occasionally, subject to random atmospheric complications; the 'joys' of country living... The TV has a Roku stick for access to internet TV. You can use our Netflix but for Amazon Prime Tv and BBC, ITV etc, you will need to sign in to your own accounts.
