The house dates from the 18th century and has been renovated into a stylish loft of 65 m2. Guests can enjoy the various restaurants, shops and bars in the area. The Hogewoerd is located in one of the oldest parts of Leiden. Shops, musea, restaurants and public transport are within walking distance. Besides, Leiden is the perfect base to explore surrounding cities such as The Hague, Rotterdam and Amsterdam and Leiden is also close to the Keukenhof. Also, Leiden is 20-25 minutes away from beaches in Katwijk or Noordwijk. Loft and laundry area. Joop and Evi will do anything to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Bakeries Vlaamsch Broodhuys: Hogewoerd 8. The Christophe Pavé bread is delicious. Mama Gourmande: Gangetje 14. French bakery with the best baguettes & (almond) croissants. Us Bertus: Doezastraat 14. A ´Friese´ bakery with a wide variety of bread. Make sure to try the typical Friese ´suikerbrood´. Butchers Van der Vooren: Doezastraat 23A. Large assortment including fresh meals. All products are of very high quality. Van der Zon: Haarlemmerstraat 78. A household name in Leiden since 1945. Friendly staff and amazing quality. Street markets: Leiden boasts one of the best markets in Holland. Every Saturday a street market arises in the center on the Nieuwe Rijn, Vismarkt and Botermarkt. Come with an empty stomach because you will find nothing but excellent fresh produce. Eat a typical Dutch herring with onions, buy a piece of cheese and snack on freshly baked bread and fresh ´stroopwafels´ (caramel waffles). Shopping The main shopping chains are present on the Haarlemmerstraat and Aalmarkt. For vintage shops and galleries, visit the Pieterskwartier. You can download the apps or go to their websites. Parking is only available at a charge. There are no free parking options near the Hogewoerd. Paid parking is possible in the area around the house. From Monday-Saturday between 09.00 - 21.00 hrs and on Sunday between 13.00 - 21.00 hrs. The rate is €3,20 per hour. You can also buy a day ticket at the payment device for €20,-. The closest parking garages are garage Garenmarkt (Korevaarstraat 26) or garage Breestraat (near the Hoogvliet Supermarket, Kaardesteeg 11). There is a bike rental around the corner of the apartment. The apartment is based on the second floor of the house and can only be reached by (2) stairs. Please take this into account if you have difficulty walking.
