The Chellington Centre is a child-friendly extended and refurbished church converted in 2005 designed for one group with exclusive-use. You have 30 beds in 7 private bunkrooms, 2 large lounges, brilliant views, vaulted main hall for food and games, playing field, campfire + barbeque with rural walks straight from door.. “We found the Centre perfect for our family gathering as many of us are nature lovers. The open field offered a lovely space for games and the children roamed the area safely”. The emphasis is very much on accessing the countryside all around but indoors we have 6 bean bags, 18 lounge chairs, 6 bench-style sofa beds in one of the break out rooms, there are 36 dining chairs and 12 tables available to set-up how you would like. We are designed to host a variety of groups so our accommodation is flexible, 7 bunkrooms have stowable bunks with sprung mattresses (and pillows/slips provided as standard) which can be set-up as singles, doubles, triples or fours, with two rooms as fives if that's what you need. We've got fast wifi and a 45" flat screen (small charge for the media suite) which can be used for films access the internet etc. but there's no TV as such. The stone floors are underfloor heated, so warm floors in the winter and the building is fully insulated, hot water and heating are powered by air-source heat-pump and we have silver Green Tourism award. The whole site/Centre is yours with no other guests or staff staying. The rounders/playing field is also yours. There is plenty of free parking in our large car park and if you close the upper gate, no one else will disturb you. The adjacent fields are immediately accessible just outside our main gates and clearly marked footpaths take you 4 different ways, two down to the river and over into the wildfowl country park and the other along an historical coaching path. The village is about 250 metres away on foot or by car about 400 metres. There is a farm about 250 metres away over the Felmersham country road. There is no manager onsite however an on-call manager will be available for questions/queries. And member of the team will meet you on arrival and departure to handover the building and the keys Chellington is a tiny hamlet consisting of the farm and a couple of farm cottages. St Nicolas Church which is now converted to the Chellington Centre where you'll be staying, is accessed along a 100 metre gated private tarmac road and surrounded by fields. Carlton village is a 5 min walk down hill from the Centre.. it has two lovely pubs with gardens, limestone thatched cottages and a village shop with post office which stocks all the fresh essentials and more. There are lovely walks from the Centre, one of which takes you to the river. You can enjoy crossing the old stone bridge, where Grey Herons fish and kingfishers can be spotted as they skit across the fast water. 50 metres beyond is the Harrold Odell Country park which the Centre overlooks from our side of the river, there is a cafe with decking and you can buy seed to feed the swans and wild geese at Grebe lake, one of three lakes all easily accessible. If you’d rather drive it’s a few minutes and a£1 to park. Walking through the park brings you to Odell village. Here there's The Bell pub which serves food and has a lovely pub garden just by the river, you can double back or walk over the foot bridge and back up via a footpath and country lane. There are bigger walking and running routes to our south towards Pavenham where the river horseshoes back or through Odell Great wood. You can drop kayaks in at Felmersham bridge 2km away, there’s a concrete slope and flat grass area, parking is free in the village with care for other users. By car from M1 or A1 usually the last few miles are brown signed posted. The Centre has a long private drive so look out for the green Chellington sign from the Felmersham Road. Mainline train from London/ the N. East all stop at Bedford oor via Milton Keynes from the West. Both finish by 11 or 15 mile taxi or #25 bus from Bedford. Plenty of free parking on site including minibuses/ large coaches. Local walking maps usually available at the Centre entrance (currently withdrawn as Covid measure) The Centre is situated overlooking a river with good views and walks in all directions. If you just want to be together without going far, the Ibbett lounge is a space to hang out with serious panoramic views to the horizon. You can enjoy the free table tennis, table football, giant Jenga, giant connect 4. Please bring adequate outdoor clothing, a jumper for an inpromptu camp fire and indoor shoes or similar for lounging or flip flops for shower cubicle.
