South Room is a light, spacious bedroom with the view. It comprises a king double bed which can be separated into two single beds, a third single bed in an annexe within the bedroom and there is a daybed which can be made up for a fourth person. The room comes with semi self-catering being microwave, barfridge, toaster, crockery and cutlery. Room facilities include Dstv, teatray, panel heaters, electric blankets, wall fan, hairdryer and ironing facility. The bathroom en suite has Victorian bath, shower, twin basins and underfloor heating. When relocating to Hilton from Zimbabwe in 2003, Gateside Guesthouse took our breath away with its stunning views and victorian charm, typical of the area. It's easy to believe that one has stepped out of Africa in this lush, misty countryside... Gateside is definitely a "character" home, being part of the original "Kings Gap" farm, since subdivided and now with the main Victorian farmhouse next door which dates back to the 1800's. It became our home and 11 years' later, the view still attracts as much as ever; constantly changing with the seasons and different weather patterns (which, in Hilton, is often!) The story goes that Gateside is the oldest Bed & Breakfast still in existence in Hilton. It has a central location but is tucked away in a peaceful cal-de-sac. We are a happy bunch with longstanding staff who welcome you with friendly smiles. Our aim is that everyone should feel at home and comfortable, whether it's business or pleasure. Each of the units comes with the following amenities: panel heaters, electric blankets, hairdryers, hospitality fridge, tea-rays, Dstv commercial bouquet, wireless internet access and fans. Whilst the family units are all fully self-catered, all the doubles and three-sleepers are semi self-catering being provided with microwaves, toasters, crockery and cutlery. There are information folders giving places of interest, restaurants and activities in the area and there is also a selection of brochures to be found in the hallway of the guesthouse. We have seven restaurants and local village shops within 1km of us and easy access with the N3 highway 2kms away. Pietermaritzburg city center 10kms. For guests who wish to eat in, we offer a delivery dinner service from one of our excellent local caterers: a tray is brought to your room with main course and side dishes and dessert.
