Northcourt is a Grade II-listed Jacobean manor house on the edge of the picturesque village of Shorwell on the Isle of Wight. The ‘west wing' of the manor provides accommodation for up to 16 people (in 7 bedrooms with 7 bathrooms). The property is conveniently situated in rural south-west Wight, close to beaches with easy access to many of the Islands attractions and wonderful walking up on the Downs. Furnished in a traditional style with modern conveniences, the ‘west wing’ provides accommodation for up to 16 (in 7 bedrooms). The house benefits from a large living room, sun room and enclosed rear garden. This listing is specifically related to the west wing of the manor which is accessed off the drive at the front of the house. Guests will have private use of the west wing and its private rear garden. We live on site within the grounds and will be there to let you in and show you around the property. Northcourt is situated on the south-west side of the Isle of Wight, on the edge of the rural, picturesque village of Shorwell, which contains the quintessential local pub, the Crown Inn, village shop, and St Peter's Church, and recreation ground with large play area, all within 10 minutes walk. The house nestles just below the chalk Downs, two and a half miles from the sea and beaches, in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It is an ideal location for walking and cycling holidays, with a network of public footpaths and bridleways accessible from the house, leading up onto the Downs and towards the sea. By car, nowhere on the Isle of Wight is more than 35 minutes away. With many of the main attractions including Carisbrooke Castle, Osborne House, Ventnor Botanic Gardens, Mottistone Manor, and the Needles Old Battery all within 25 minutes, and Compton Beach within 15 minutes. The number 12 bus route passes through Shorwell from Newport and the stop is located opposite the drive - although the rural bus service is somewhat infrequent. For large groups mini-bus pick up can be arranged from the ferry terminals. The house and kitchens are perfect for celebratory dinner parties and we can pass on details of local caterers and their teams to entertain you. We will happily recommend a variety of local activities and attractions to interest all manner of guests making your stay on the Island even more enjoyable. We are able to offer discounted ferry travel booked through our trade account on crossings from Southampton, Portsmouth or Yarmouth. We can help organise deliveries of bread and pastries, meat, fish, fruit and vegetables all fresh from local growers/retailers as well as daily newspapers from our village shop. We work with a local spa company who can offer on site treatments. Hot tubs can be hired from a local supplier. The Crown Inn located within 5 minutes walk through the garden is a welcome distraction for those wanting to have a night off cooking, or fancy a pint of local ale. The property includes a piano, table tennis tables, snooker table, and a number of smart TV's with Netflix, and a bluetooth speaker with with CD players/DAB radio. A grass tennis court is available to use at certain times (if dry enough between May - September). High speed fibre broadband is available via wi-fi in large parts of the house. Linen is provided throughout the property, with fresh bed sheets, bath towels and hand towels. The fires are pre-laid with paper, kindling and logs, with a complimentary basket of logs provided for guests (mid October – mid-May). Our new biomass boiler provides central heating throughout making the house wonderfully cosy.
