Shambala is a simple beach house in a spectacular location, just footsteps from the sea. This is a breathtakingly beautiful, quiet, rural & rustic stretch of coastline where the magic of the pine covered mountains tumble right down to the sea. Shambala is located on a beach covered in sea washed pebbles and is in the heart of the village. There is a pretty harbour, minimarket, a cafe and fish tavern. Pomos is only around 70km drive from Paphos, yet it feels like worlds away. Shambala is a detached beach house in a quiet village and sits just 20 meters from the sea. Please note that the house may not be suitable for anyone with limited physical ability due to the large pebbles on the shore and the steep, uneven access from the house down to the sea. Shambala is not suitable for children under 15. The location, however, is nothing short of spectacular. Sitting on the wooden deck watching the sunset and listening the the waves lap on the pebbles is simply magical. Steps lead from the private, undercover parking area to the front door which opens onto the open plan kitchen, dining and living area. Throw open the shutters and bifold doors and you will see and hear the waves crashing on the pebble beach below. The house is simply furnished but fully equipped. This is all about the location and outdoor space. However, we do have wifi, a bluetooth speaker and smart tv with Netflix and worldwide channels. Doors open out onto the shady palm terrace with dining table for alfresco meals. Most days there is a wonderful sea breeze to keep the house and terraces cool. There’s a sunny spot with bistro table for morning coffee and a swing chair in the shade for lazy afternoons dozing to the sound of the sea. Rough stone steps lead past the little zen garden and driftwood shower to the seafront deck where you can watch the most spectacular sunsets over the sea. Upstairs, there are two bedrooms and a small bathroom with shower over the bathtub. The house is really focused on couples, with the master bedroom having dual aspect bi fold windows overlooking the sea, so guests can throw open the shutters and hear the waves crashing on the pebbles below. There’s almost always a sea breeze, so if you would like to sleep with windows open and drift off to sleep to the sound of the sea we have provided a mosquito net for the bed. The second bedroom has no sea views, although it is cooler room in the summer, there is a kingsize bed and single bed so it’s suitable for older teenagers visiting with parents maybe. Both bedrooms have air conditioning and share the bathroom, although there is an additional cloakroom with toilet and basin downstairs. Shambala is not a luxury house, it is a beautifully designed, simple, yet fully equipped beach house. It is designed to make the most of the location and the views and although beach front it is not remote as it is in the heart of the village, with a coffee shop and store within walking distance. The neighbours are mostly local people and a few holiday lets. This is a quiet area and we ask that our guests respect the locals by not playing loud music or causing any type of noise problems for them. Shambala is overlooked from the back but most of the windows, apart from the second bedroom, face the sea and there is only the sea in front. For the cooler months there’s a large log burner and extra blankets & throws for cosy nights by the sea. This is a place for wave watching, star gazing and driftwood collecting, there are Sandy beaches with sunbeds and a beach bar a short walk along the coast. Please note that the large pebbles on the beach directly at the front of the house can be difficult to walk on and we recommend bringing suitable foot ware. The remote and rustic location, the access down to the sea and the large pebble beach means that we have deemed this property unsuitable for children. It’s perfect for couples or friends sharing. There is a second bedroom which does not overlook the ocean but may be suitable for older teenagers The whole house, Shaded veranda and deck for guests private use I live around 35 minutes away. If arrival is before 6pm I do like to meet guests on arrival, otherwise there is a lock safe. The housekeeper lives in the village and will be available if needed, although has very limited English! I will be available from 8am to 7pm every day or 24 hours in emergencies only. Please note, during Covid 19 restrictions it may not be possible to do arrival meets or mid stay cleans but fresh towels and linen will be available. Pomos is a quiet, unspoiled village on the sea with a pine covered mountain backdrop and is the perfect place for some rest and relaxation. The properties are a mix of millionaire's pads and very basic Cypriot village houses, there are a few undeveloped properties close to Shambala as there are all over Cyprus. Please note Shambala is not secluded, it is beachfront but is also in the heart of the village with neighbours to either side of the house and some behind. Most neighbours are local with a few holiday lets. The houses behind are weekend second homes. The area is rural and rustic and has a charm all of its own. The forest covered mountains almost touch the sea. During the winter months there is only one taverna open in the village, but more available a 10minutes drive away. There is a wonderful mountain drive which leads to a dam and hidden church in the forests and the views from there are nothing short of spectacular. There are hiking trails through pine forests and remote fishing villages accessed via narrow mountain roads. The border with the North is approx 25km drive through the mountains. In the summer months you will find secluded beach bars and mountain hideaway taverns with live music and excellent cuisine. Pomos is the most remote village in Paphos. It is on the bus route, although around 75 minutes journey from Paphos by car so we recommended hiring a car for a stay here. There is a shop and coffee shop within walking distance and plenty of walking trails from the village. If you require a taxi from Paphos airport we recommend Stevies Taxi in Paphos. Please read this section along with house rules and full description before booking. Pomos is the most remote village in the Paphos district yet only around 70km from Paphos. It is a very quiet village, quite rustic and rural with a pretty harbour, fish tavern and a few small cafes and taverns. Please note that some of these close during winter months, including the beach bar and harbour fish tavern. It’s the perfect place for walking, meditation and mountain drives. There are plenty of taverns and more lively bars in Argaka a 10minutes drive away and Polis town, a 20 minute drive. The beach infront of the house is quiet and has large pebbles which are difficult to walk on and we recommend bringing water shoes. It is a fantastic place to watch the waves and collect driftwood, there are Sandy beaches a short distance away. The access to the beach may not be suitable for anyone with walking restrictions as it is loose stones and rough ground with a sloping, uneven access to the sea. For this reason we do not accept children under the age of 15. The house is intended for couples. There is a second bedroom which has no sea views and is overlooked by neighbours. Therefore our prices are based on 2 people sharing one bedroom. If you do require 2 bedrooms the additional charge of €15 per person, per night will apply to cover laundry, cleaning and air conditioning use in the second bedroom. If you are booking for 2 people but require both bedrooms please book for 3 people, as otherwise only the main bedroom will be made up and air conditioning in the second bedroom disabled. We do our very best to keep the house bug free but there may be the occasional creepy crawly as it’s very normal in Cyprus, if you don’t want to deal with it please give us a call. We recommend covering food at night and wiping surfaces to keep ants away! Please Note: During Covid 19 restrictions it may not be possible to do midstay cleans, but fresh towels and linen will be available. Also, to allow thorough cleaning and sterilisation time we ask that guests depart by 10am and do not arrive before 4pm. We are therefore unable to offer early check in or late departures. During the cooler season November to April the village is extremely quiet and there is only one tavern and a couple of grocery stores open making it a perfect spot for writers or meditation breaks. It is also wonderful winter romantic retreat.
