Silverfields Organic Smallholding
Want to try The Good Life? 3-bed semi detached modern house set on a smallholding in a picturesque village in north Bedfordshire. 1.5 hours from London. Have you ever thought about living the The Good Life? If you like the idea of organic vegetable-growing in a peaceful, rural setting then this is the perfect opportunity for you. Our modern, comfortable home sits adjacent to our well-established smallholding in a friendly North Bedfordshire village. Below is a brief summary of what your stay will entail, but we will of course provide more detailed information on how to do everything. We would also like to chat to you over the phone beforehand. Ideally, we would also like to meet you the day before your stay so we can show you the ropes. We will leave you contact numbers of local friends and family to use if anything goes wrong or if you are just unsure about anything. The 3-bed semi-detached house was re-built in 2011 and as you’ll see from the pictures, is open plan downstairs with the bedrooms and bathroom upstairs. There is an office that will used to store our personal effects. Guest have full use of the utility room on the ground floor too. The house is part of the 1.4 acre organic smallholding, where we grow our own fruit and veg. Our friendly hens provide us with fresh daily eggs. While you are here, your main tasks will be to feed the animals and keep all the crops well-watered. We have a 30ft polytunnel and two greenhouses which will be full of tomatoes and peppers etc. You are welcome to eat as much of the produce as you like. Some maintenance may be required depending on the time and length of your stay. This may include grass cutting and perhaps weeding. Full details on what is expected regarding the small holding will be provided on request. We only farm around a fifth of the land and a small section of the field is given over to producing living walls (see pictures). While we are away this is managed by a neighbour, who pops in from time to time to check the automated irrigation is working correctly. The rest of the land is wooded and there is a fire pit at the bottom of the wood, were you are welcome to have bar-be-ques and campfires. We are located six miles from Bedford (10 minutes drive). We are approximately 15 minutes from junction 14 on the M1 and via the new bypass, about twenty from the A1. Trains from London to Bedford take around an hour. There are many scenic walks in the area and there is a friendly local pub serving good ale. The village is very peaceful and will provide a very relaxed and quiet stay. You will have full access to the entire house and grounds, save for one small room on the ground floor We will be available by phone, text or email for the duration of your stay. The village is very quiet with a slow pace of life in Stevington. The pub can get lively if you fancy a few drinks and a chance to interact with the locals. You''ll need a car. A bus runs about five trips into Bedford during the day and its around £12 to get a taxi into town.
