Our place is located in the northern suburbs of Athens at the foothill of mount Penteli where the Acropolis marbles were taken . The area is very green and hilly, yet only 15 minutes drive from the summer resorts and beaches of Marathon and Nea Makri. Only a short drive from the historic battlefield of Marathon and Marathon lake. The classic Marathon starts here! The house is built on 450 square meters of land full of large pine trees, shrubs and bushes. There is a gas BBQ in the garden. The property combines both the advantages of cool mountain air and the summer breeze of the sea. This most appreciated during hot summer days when the temperature is 6-7 degrees C less than the centre of Athens. The surroundings are very quiet, safe and ideal for short or long hikes in the neighborhood or on mount Penteli which is the source of the Acropolis marbles during the old times. The house consists of three bedrooms, two bathrooms, living room, kitchen and a study room. It is built on 450 square meters of land shaded by large pine trees, shrubs and bushes. It has all the main kitchen appliances, satelite TV, home cinema and WiFi. There is a gas BBQ in the garden. There is a variety of places you can visit with short drives around. In 10 minutes drive you arrive at the Marathon Lake with beautiful views, picturesque cafes and taverns. Drive a little further and enjoy summer life at the beaches around Nea Makri, Schinias and Marathon-by-the-sea. Swimming in the clear blue sea and enjoying seafood at the numerous restaurants right on the beach is an absolute must. Apart from the endless historic sites one can visit there are lots of cultural events to see and do in Athens all year round. Enjoy the Athens theater festival in the Herodus theater at the foothill of the Acropolis rock, take a stroll in the narrow streets of Plaka (the old part of Athens), or an open air music festival under the full moon in the Agora to mention a few. Our guests will find a list of things to do at our home. Definitely not a boring city. For more info please visit the links (Website hidden by Airbnb) (Website hidden by Airbnb) For those wishing to explore Greece further out, our summer home by the sea can also be available to you, provided it is free at the time. More info about it and pictures can be available on request. The summer home is built on 500 square meters land on a smooth slope. It is conveniently located both near the beach and town center of Amphilochia on the west coast. All spaces in the property are accessible by the guests. A bicycle or two can be available to our guests. We have put together a homemade guide of "where to go what to do" tips including short trips in or around Attica. If we are not in the area, we are always available via mobile or email for more info, tips and all sort of info that our guests may require. Let us know of your special accommodation needs. We will do our best. The area is on altitude of 500-600 meters and provides sport anemities, like basketball, soccer, tennis, horseback riding, hiking and sailing. It is the most favorite area for serious and casual bikers. Dionysos hosts the only woody area in Attica with trees over 100 years old. In August there is a local festival with theatre plays, concerts and dances. There is a nearby open-air cinema operating during summer showing new releases. It is an experience to be there under the stary skies. For the seafood lovers, who do not mind to wake up early and visit to the Nea Makri fishing harbour, they will be rewarded with delicious daily catch straight from the fishermen. The area of Dionysos was named after Dionysos, son of Zeus and god of wine, euphoria and theatre, because the ancient altar, devoted to this god, was built here within walking distance from the house. In a sense the ancient greek theatre was born in the area during the Dionysos symposiums that were often in this area. We are very proud of the area and try to keep it safe from excesive building. There is a bus service running every 20min that takes you to Kifisia and from there, there are lots of buses and train connection to the centre of Athens. The same train takes you Pireaus port where you can catch a boat to the islands. A daily cruise to Saronic islands, Aegina, Hydra, Poros and Spetes is highly recommended. There is also Intercity train connection that takes you to Northern Greece and anywhere in between. The nearest airport is the Athens International Airport about one hour drive away. We recommend to have your own car for easy access to the sea resorts and to make short trips around.
