Stay in a charming & newly refurbished country cottage situated in the grounds of a plant nursery. Explore the beautiful estate consisting of lakes, ancient woodlands & display gardens. Visit local castles & south coast attractions, enjoy excellent local pubs & beautiful walks along the downs. Discover local history and visit historical Battle & Rye. Book a beauty treatment in the comfort of your own home with a qualified professional. The cottage is a large 2 bed property with ample living space consisting of a large sitting room & open plan kitchen & dining room. There is a double bedroom & a twin (which has both a single & double bed in it). Plus a really comfy sofa bed in the living room. The décor is country cottage with vibrant & modern colours. There is a private outside garden area with BBQ and garden furniture and a wood burner for cosy winter nights in. There is a triple parking space situated adjacent to the property. We provide a map of the estate that shows you the footpaths that are accessible for guests. The village of Herstmonceux is a 2km walk away, there is an excellent pub, French & Indian restaurant, 2 convenience stores and a pharmacy. There is a main bus route running past the cottage to Eastbourne & Hastings. The village of Herstmonceux is located 1 km from the cottage. The name comes from Anglo-Saxon hyrst, "wooded hill", plus the name of the Monceux family who were lords of the manor in the 12th century. Herstmonceux Castle 2 miles (3.2 km) south-east of the village is a former site of the Royal Greenwich Observatory. It is now home to the Bader International Study Centre of Queen's University, Kingston, Canada, and the area therefore enjoys an influx of Canadian and other international students each school year. The castle grounds are also home to the Observatory Science Centre, which is operated by Science Projects Limited, and the Herstmonceux Mediaeval Festival. There is a bus route to Hastings or Eastbourne from the cottage. We have had some feedback that the road adjacent to the cottage is quite noisy, however most guests didn't notice. We have recently installed double glazing, so this has dramatically helped. However, If you are a very light sleeper and not used to any noise at night time this could be an issue. Ear plugs might be a good idea. As a guest at the cottage you are not able to access the lakeside area without permission due to h&s. please speak with Helen & Vicky about this.
