Foster Farm
Foster Farm is a recently renovated 1850's Vermont farmhouse on 168 acres in East Montpelier. Quietly situated at the end of a dead-end road, there are trails on the property and a pond for swimming. About 15 minutes from downtown Montpelier, there is also easy access to restaurants and grocery stores. The area around East Montpelier has many trails and dirt roads for walking, running, biking or cross-country skiing, and is about an hour drive from several downhill ski areas. Our next-door neighbors are available to help with any issues. Every Saturday, from May to October, Montpelier has its farmer's market from 9 to 1 (downtown Montpelier). Local produce, local meat and sausage, local cheese, local crafts, live music, a portable pizza oven and much, much more. Closer to home, we love the Sodom pond loop: a perfect bike ride or a nice long run. The charming town of Adamant, with its well-stocked general store, is also home to a prestigious summer music school that puts on summer concerts by international musicians. There's a lovely park with a stream that is perfect for picnics. The historic Capitol building in downtown Montpelier is worth a tour (it's free). Braggs Farm and Morse Farm are both nearby. Debate which one has the better maple creamies. May require multiple, double-blind tastings. Foster Farm is close to VAST trails (for cross-country skiing and snowmobiling) and about an hour away from the ski resorts at Stowe, Sugarbush and Mad River Glen. The ski area of Bolton Valley is about 45 minutes away and has night skiing. Also within about 60-90 minutes are Jay Peak Resort and Waterpark, Craftsbury Outdoor Center, The Trapp Family Lodge and the Kingdom Trails. For hiking, Spruce Mountain, Hubbard Park, The Worcester Mountain Range (Mt. Hunger, Mt. Worcester and White Rocks) and Elmore Mountain are within an hour's drive, and Mt. Pisgah is about an hour and 20 minutes away. Since Foster Farm is out in the country, a car is essential. Parking is not a problem either at the house, or at most of the local attractions.
