"HAY LOFT" quiet rural location, close to Durham
Arriving on two wheels? We have space for 2 motorbikes in the garage below. We are 7 miles from Durham, 15 minutes by car. Views are great, the Loft is located in our large garden in the middle of the countryside at the end of a farm track, it is half a mile from the nearest road meaning ZERO traffic noise. The headroom is kind of tight along the two sides but, at 6 feet tall I manage okay. Perfect for two, but can easily cope with 4 people. The Loft is accessed by external concrete steps. The Loft has a 40" Samsung TV, Wi Fi, Fridge with freezer box, Combi microwave/grill, kettle & toaster and a Tasimo coffee machine with pods provided. There is a hob but no oven. The whole loft is yours, there is a washing machine below the Loft that guests can use as well as a tumble dryer. The field you see from the window is also ours, feel free to take a wander. Ten minutes by car will get you to Seaham Harbour where you can collect sea glass. Car parking, there is space for 8 cars or more, probably eighty at a push... We'll show you in, explain what's what then leave you to do your own thing, we'll give you our direct numbers, just call us at any time if you need something. (Website hidden by Airbnb) There are only 6 properties here, one farmhouse and five converted barns. There are no street lights - it's great! There are loads of places to visit - Durham Cathedral and Castle, Seaham Harbour (for seaglass & Tommy - ask us about Tommy or look him up)), Beamish open air museum, Hartlepool Maritime museum, Sunderland National Glass Museum are a just a few interesting places nearby. Nature lovers will also love how close we are to the stunning Castle Eden Dene Nature reserve which is a Site of Special Scientific Interest, it is a series of deep ravines and is the largest area of semi-natural woodland in the north-east of England. Also the beautiful Hawthorn Dene, which is managed by the Woodland Trust has walks of varying distance. You can walk through the Dene to a deserted bay where you can find sea glass (depending on the tide) and the village pub, The Stapylton Arms, serves a reasonably priced lunch. The cosy bar has a log burner and welcomes dogs. Durham, Sunderland, Newcastle, Darlington and Middlesbrough are all easy to get to. With vibrant cities, stunning coastline, a rich local heritage and areas of outstanding natural beauty on the doorstep, you’ll always have lots of ways to spend your free time. The famous Durham Heritage Coastline is just a few miles away and its stunning National Nature Reserve. Packed with natural and historical highlights around every headland, it is a great place to explore and enjoy the fresh sea air. The popular coastal town of Seaham is a 15 minute drive away. The North York Moors National Park and the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty both make fantastic days out and are both easy to get to. A car(or a motorbike or push bike even) is a must, public transport is not so good and the nearest bus stop is about a mile away. We're about 7 miles, 12 to 15 minutes by car, from the centre of Durham. It's dark where we live but the whole area is covered by security lighting, 10 in total, but you can isolate the external lights to the Loft should you wish to star gaze. During the summer we have some wonderful sunsets that can be viewed from the small balcony. Headroom in part of the bedroom and shower room is tight if you are tall.
