Welgevonden(meaning well founded) was the first B&B in the Klein Karoo when its doors opened in 1989. Many of the guests have become friends and return to the succulent capital of the world, also famous for ostriches, port wine and incredible scenery. We are situated on a 5 acre farm only 1 km from town centre. Within walking distance of 3 wine cellars. We love to share our knowledge of the area, where to drive, dine, hike, mountain bike or where best to breathe the abundance of fresh air. Welgevonden has 4 en-suite rooms, each leading onto a verandah overlooking the garden. The pool area is on a lower part of the garden overlooking the lucerne fields and a small river. The clay-walled rooms date from 1880 with Oregon pine floors and reed ceilings reflecting the atmosphere and building styles of the Klein Karoo. Family heirlooms decorate the rooms to provide a taste of days gone by. Guests have access to a communal lounge with flat screen satellite TV, indoor fire place and local information. The communal kitchenette with microwave, kettle and fridge can be used to prepare a basic breakfast or alternatively breakfast can be provided at an extra cost. Braai facilities can be provided . Because the weather in the Klein Karoo is so good most guests spend their time on the verandah or in the garden at the pool We live on the property and like to interact with our guests and tell them about the area. Calitzdorp is halfway between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth on the famous R62 which is a more scenic alternative to the N2 national highway. Calitzdorp is well known for its wines and is also called the port wine capital of South Africa. The town and surrounding areas are home to a wide variety of succulents and hosts the annual international succulent festival, showcasing incredible plants adapted to grow in the region. You should rely on your own transport - whether it is a car, a bicycle or a motorcycle. Walking into town for a meal or to visit a wine cellar or art studio is easy. We will make some recommendations. Breakfast can be served at an additional cost
